Stalling on gear change

Postby si4star » Wed Sep 13, 2017 3:55 pm

Hello,

I've got a 2013 2.2ltr diesel transit custom swb. 63 reg with 56k miles on.

Recently it began to stall on gear down changing.

I'd put the clutch to the floor, take it out of third, move it to second and by the time i lift the clutch the revs have dropped off and the vans stalled.

It's happened 4-3 and 3-2. Thankfully no accidents yet - despite it happening moving onto a slip road at 40+mph.

I've had the van into Ford three times now, 10 days in total.

They've relearned, and "updated the software" and it's still an issue.

Other symptoms (which may or may not be related) are;

- sometimes it won't start immediately and the starter fires for up to ten seconds before the engine starts (starts sooner if it touch the accelerator)
- the revs wobble all the time, be in in gear with the clutch down or in neutral
- the revs fluctuate quite a lot as I drop and lift clutch

All symptoms including the gear change stall are infrequent. The gear change issue can happen 5 times in 10 minutes, then not for another few hours.

It's really taken the shine off what has been a great van so far and it's really starting to get me down that even FORD can't fix their own van.

Please can anyone shed some light on this? I'm hoping to find someone that's had an identical issue resolved. Fingers crossed.

Thanks.

Simon

Sounds like the clutch switch could be playing up.
