Cargo lights isolation switch

Postby neill » Mon Oct 09, 2017 8:55 pm

Where is the best place to tap into in the wiring to have an isolation switch for the load area lights . I've got a few extra ones fitted at the moment and want to be able to turn them off rather than wait for the 30 mins save to kick in. Often have the van doors open for prolonged periods several times through the day

Mine has the 4 leds set up so wondering where the main feed is?

Each led seems to have its own feed going into the loom , need to find a common place to fit a switch if any one knows?

Should work with any of the doors, the BCM shuts the lights down after 30 mins, unless you shut and re-open any door in the meantime.

I don't know if the time is adjustable with IDS, but my Mk7 shuts down after only 10-15 mins since I had a new BCM fitted :?

I’ve never timed it but it certainly seems around 30 mins... too long if you do it regularly.

Mine is dciv and the light cluster above the centre of the cabin (not above the driver the furthest one rearward) operates the cargo area as well. I only found this out by accident. My side doors have no access to the cargo area though, so it may be wired differently, but the cargo light will light on unlock and entry from all doors.

One of the first things I did was replace everything for LED so the drain is way less.

Someone on here did fit a switch neatly by the rear door pillar but I can’t find the thread or pics

My standard cargo bulb lamps turn off after about 10 seconds :( not nice as i jump in the back to use the dunny and i kneel down and point Percy art the plastic then all the lights go out and i end up pissing all over myself :?

I do have led steps but they are connected in conjunction with my inverter but are turned on using the big ass iso switch.
In the front, this is great but i keep forgetting to turn it off :x although it'll last days and i come to the can and it runs great, no stop start tho, perhaps the fact that it was damaged and sat there for God knows how long maybe the front battery is toast? I might swap them around and see.

Point is, I'm thinking of wiring the leds to a timed live or something :?

What was the question again?

I've rewired the 4 idividual LEDs to run off just two feeds now . I've used a 2 pole in line lead switch ( like a table lamp switch) which isolates the 2 feeds. Just cable tied the switch to my racking . During the daytime I just isolate the lights now .
