5W-30 oil is Ford spec WSS-M2C913-C & D and is for CVFF engine 2.2l Duratec.
0W-30 oil is Ford spec WSS-M2C950-A and is for the 2.0l YN, YM, YL, Panther engines and newer Ford diesels.
Very similar oils, only the winter (W) viscosity is different. 0W being runnier at colder temps. Pour temp -50 for 0W and -39 for 5W.
I would suggest that the garages will only want to stock the one oil that meets and exceeds the Ford specs for all engines, which is the 0W-30 oil.
Probably the lower cold viscosity spec in the newer engines is to do with meeting fuel emission targets in cold climates. If it is very cold and the engine oil is thicker then the engine runs less efficiently for longer.
Don't think it will make any difference in the UK and using 5W-30 Ford spec WSS-M2C913-C & D in the 2.2 engine is perfectly fine and correct. If you want to pay more 0W-30 you can. If you live some where with very cold winters it might be good. If you have a new 2.0 you must use it for warranty.
Ps. What is much more important for your engine than 0W or 5W is changing the oil at regular intervals and not necessarily waiting for the stupidly long service intervals now specified.
Unfortunately garages will need to stock both viscositys to be doing things correctly.
The 0W-50 does not exceed the previous 5W-30 spec otherwise the previous spec would have been superceeded by a ‘...913-E’ similar to what happened when ‘D’ superceeded ‘C’ when DPF’s appeared.
Basically 2.2 5W30 or 2.0 0W30
