Front courtesy light door switch

Postby itcud » Thu Dec 07, 2017 6:32 pm

Hi , I'm new to vanning and Transits . Recently bought a L1H2 to convert into a day van / camper .
Interior light doesn't come on when driver's door is opened , ok on passenger side . Also ' headlight left on ' warning doesn't sound when door is opened .
Have the very same problem with my Golf but it's not an easy fix as the switch is in the lock .
Does anybody know where the Transit switch is ? There appears to be a switch where you'd expect to find it at the hinge end of the door but it's not a conventional push button type affair and seems to bear on what looks like a blanking grommet in the door pillar ??
Any pointers would be most welcome ,
Thanks

Typically it is within the door locking mechanism, has someone been slamming the door? :-)

For some reason whenever I have a merc driver as a passenger they really slam my doors  I don't mind the buzzer sound but some can't stand it so it's probably been removed

Check on the other side.... does the blanking grommet thingy have anything protruding from it?

My sliders were doing the same as you describe and I couldn’t find a switch anywhere to rectify the issue....Drove me mad!

I then realised after weeks of head scratching that the blanking nubs were once a sprung loaded door switch... they had disintegrated and were both missing and no longer worked obviously! 2 new ones were 20 quid and it’s all sorted.

I had to buy and fit myself though as Ford wanted the van in for a day to diagnose the problem and get the warranty claim agreed with ford UK - then rebook the van in to have them fitted. Bloody Ford. It took me less than a minute to fit them in the car park! Ridiculous set up. Bloody Ford.

S60r the sliders have a contact plate and a pin switch but the other doors it's all incorporated into the lock mechanisms yes? :-)

He has said the drivers door so I'm assuming the front ones, what you said is correct but is going to confuse us

Thanks for your reply S60r ,
The passenger door has the same blanking grommet but the light works when it's opened ?
Easiest thing to do in the first instance is look at another van . Shouldn't be too difficult as they're everywhere .
Are there any independent Tranny specialists out there that I could possibly get in touch with ?
Thanks again

It's a wonder why I'm less helpful these days
That grommet is nothing.

Yes indeed the front ones is what he’s asking about I just thought I’d share my experience with the sliders in case the fronts used a similar system.

The pins and plate are not what you think they are though!

The van has a sprungloaded nub at the bottom right of each door that operates the door open warning and the overhead lights etc.... I think the pins and plate must be the alarm only??? Strange set up on the sliders, just checking the fronts didn’t operate the same way. Sorry if I confused issue.

The pin above the plate on the mk7 is for ajar and it's for both alarm and door open, mine was missing, the plunger can come out and it acts like there's no door open at all times, my interior lights stopped operating in the desired way and until i spotted that and replaced it i was unaware. Also i had upgraded my speedo to high spec and was fascinated when the display has read xxxxx open/ajar minus the side door which is likely passenger side rear door i forget.
New switch goes on and first close of the door ratchets the switch to the required depth.
Any rubber bit on the door i think is a limiter like you have on the bonnet. :-)

I haven't got a mk7 to check and I'm not trying to be clever but i have mild ocd and if I'm wrong that's fine but the world is currently in disarray :-(

Thanks for the diagram Loot , it's very interesting and I can quite clearly see the door switch ....... except I can't see it as yet on my van !
I'm now assuming it must be within the lock assy , in which case it's a problem for another day , if at all :(
