Gearbox selector, (on top of the gearbox on a custom Mk8).

Hi. I have posted about my sons vans, (Transit custom on a 2013 plate), gearbox problem before but what I'd like to know is is the selector box easy to take apart / remove for inspection as I have a nagging doubt that the synchcro has gone on his first gear as it BANGS out when pulling away... its ok if when you come to a set of lights and push it into first gear before stopping and then he can pull away without the first gear slipping out.

So, anyone taken a selector apart on these vans before as I feel there maybe dirt inside effecting the first gear selection.
