Sport 170 hunting on idle occasionally?

Postby hoggyf » Sun Dec 24, 2017 10:58 am

My 2017 sport 170 has an unusual habit of occasionally sitting "hunting" on Rickover, revs will lift and drop between about 700 and 1300 and this only happens when it's cold, maybe say after a short run of a mile to a mile and a half, has done it probably 10 times maybe in the 3 months I've had it.
Anyone else had this? Otherwise van is fine other than a bit thirsty, 33mpg average so far, hope it improves with age!
Oh and needed the ad blue topped up with about 12 litres after 4000 miles, is this normal too?

Ad blue use seems normal according friends I have who own euro6’s... every 4-5 k it needs a refill.

The anti stall does make the revs do some strange things especially on the manuals..... try depressing the clutch if you are manual stationary..........there have been a lot of injectors go bad on the new 2 litre panther engines so it may be worth getting them checked out.

Doesn't seem to make any difference whether it's clutch in or out, sometimes a quick revs clears it other times it's like that until it warms up, everything else seems fine otherwise, I'll keep an eye on it.
Very pleased with the new engine though, it's a good bit better than the old 2.2 in drivability

Yes much better than the 2.2.... I have driven both, the low down is better as is the low speed in traffic drivability. My 2.2 is excellent now it’s been remapped but it’s still a b*stard to drive at low speed due to the crap clutch & flywheel.

Too many issues with the new 2 litre for me to swap yet tho..... I’m sure they will be ironed out.... always seems to take a year or 2 on the road before Ford get any new car right.... they like to use their customers as beta testers particularly where the commercial stuff is concerned.

Hope yours comes good.

Hi,

I’ve got Tourneo Custom 2016 (euro 6), and first winter it did the same couple of times,... though it was between 700 and 1000 rpm,... never over 1000. Like you said, once it sopped after I rev it up, second time it didn’t stop.
It always happend after couple of miles in cold morning. This winter no signs of this so far,...

My 170's done it just a few times from new, but it hasn't done it again for he last 10k or so. As another poster said, a quick blip on the throttle stopped it. And FWIW, my Euro 6 170 has been utterly flawless from day #1.
