Roof window advice

Postby vanvliet » Wed Jan 31, 2018 10:37 pm

Can't make up my mind on what roof window to fit to my SWB high top . Looked at plastic opening vents like the Seitz or (fan powered) Fantastic but they seem insubstantial and I keep coming back to the idea of fitting an alloy framed marine hatch.
I can get a flanged size 50 Bainbridge storm hatch for about £190 but it is 7kg - would this be too heavy? It would seem to fit neatly between the roof rafters ( 50cm) which look pretty strong. The Vetus 40 is only 4kg but doesnt seem as good. Any observations/advice ? :?

Hi I’ve got a similar upvc marine hatch to fit in mine for the same reason. They’re much more substantial (ie you can stand on them) and can even be used as an escape hatch if you really had to, but can’t think of a situation where you’d need to!

This ones in plastic so is much lighter than the metal ones. I think it cost about £160 18 months ago.

That looks great! You don't happen to remember which one you bought? Only seeing the metal ones at the moment.

There's definitely some quality concerns on the standard caravan rooflights. Was looking at an MPK Vison Star but these seem a bit bigger and better. I guess the fitting is much the same?
