spare tyre carrier removal

Postby Proper1 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:13 pm

Hi can anybody help i wound up the spare tyre winch on my transit custom 2014 without a tyre on it as I had just changed a puncture and was going straight for a replacement tyre as I took the side wall out. Now the tyre winch is very stiff and the wire will not drop down to get spare back on ,I think that wire has come of pulley system when wound up with no weight on it .been online and it looks like a replacement is needed .does anyone know how to remove the tyre winch assembly?

Un-clip cable housing from underneath, drill or grind 4 rivets out inside van, it will then lift out, pretty straightforward.

Hi there people . I have a transit connect 2006 . I have a question about the spare wheel carrier . Under my van i have all the cable and mechanism. But the hook bit that holds the wheel up is missing . Can I just buy that part or do you reckon I have to buy the complete spare wheel carrier part ? .

Lots of people with the same problem. Has someone got a good solution to holding the spare wheel in place rather than buying a complete new mechanism for £79? Or someone selling one that is not all rusted like I see in ebay from Germany for "just €60"?

My mates been using this for a year to attach their spare wheel to the bottom of their van and it's worked well - £20 for 2
