Brake pads for Transit Custom

Postby Harley2015 » Thu Feb 15, 2018 3:43 pm

I've got a Transit Custom 2014. I had the front brake pads replaced in April 2017 and had to have them replaced again last month, so only 9 months later. Is this normal? Does anyone have a rough idea how long pads should last.

Depends on how many miles it’s done?

If it’s eaten it’s pads in 9 months Could be that you have driven shed loads of miles, the calliper is seized partly on dragging your brakes or most likely your discs are scored and have eaten the pad well ahead of time.

First replaced front pads at 50000 km together with service. There were 3 to 4 mm left.
Next right before 100000 service I got warning that service brakes. before that heard sometimes some relevant noize.
Replaced front pads and disks + rear pads as I requested. Looked OK, but inside were worn and probably after about 15000 km left.

My OE Ford pads flashed the wear indicator and were changed at 38k miles on my bus. The disks weren't too bad so I cleaned them up and left them but I'm going to change all 4 disks and pads next year when the bus has done 50k miles.
