64 2.2 fuel cut off switch??

Postby MD motors » Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:44 pm

Hiya i have a customer with a 64 plate 2.2 transit that wont start

Initial diagnostics showed low rail pressure on cranking
Checked for fuel delivered at high pressure pump and had none.

If you jump the fp relay it starts but there is no switched earth from body control module/engine ecu

Is there a fuel pump cut off switch anywhere??

Please help

Thanks

Some have a yellow square rubber reset button which is located behind the glovebox looking up and left to the A post area.

The transit custom has a pcm shutoff which when tripped requires a series of key cycles to reset.

It should be in the handbook which you have.
Only applies to vehicles with electronic fuel pump.
You can rely on the above about 99% but either way won't take long to check :-)

Thanks for the reply, pretty sure this is a transit custom. Do you have any idea what the Ignition procedure is? And would this stop the switched earth?

Thanks again

When I bought my van it was smashed and I recall the display telling me what to do which I basically turned the ignition on and off a few times, only done it once though so it's a bit vague, also I have the high spec speedo with colour display and sat nav colour display in the centre.

I would expect that if your van has no warning lights or info on the display or any other lights flashing then surely it isn't in limited mode?

Have you had it on diagnostics like ids for specific code read?

Yes i have done diagnostics, cant recall exact code however the text is low pressure on cranking. If i clear the code then bridge the relay it will start with no codes because the fuel pump is working.

I would also like to think if the van was stopping its self starting via a programmed inertia switch built into pcm there would either be a fault code or message on dash but with modern cars it wouldnt suprise me if you had no warning at all. As in this day and age we are all supposed to be diagnostics gurus to keep these things on the road

That's true, I would expect a code if it was tripped though, if it hasn't been crashed though is it likely that it is even tripped?

If you can confirm that it is a custom.
