Help & Advice please

Postby jinx » Wed Mar 07, 2018 1:01 am

Hi All, I am wondering how i stand with this . I purchased a 17 plate custom from a Ford dealership in somerset Dec 23rd 2017 and every morning it has been failing to start due to not enough battery life . I have been calling my own breakdown Gr**n flag to get me started and then read that i had a couple of months left of ford assist so i have called them out to jump the battery and i have jumped it myself numerous times. The AA man from ford assist said that the battery is fine and after doing some test over 15 mins said that something is discharging the battery overnight and that i should take it in to the dealers to get it checked out so i booked it in to my local Ford dealership .Long story short its been in for 13 days now and i have been given a custom courtesy van during this time any way i had a call off them today to say that they have found what is causing the discharge , its the towbar module and because its not a ford tow bar it wont be covered by warranty and that i will have to foot the bill for the work which roughly will be £1300 . The towbar was already fitted when i purchased the van in Dec . I got in touch with the ford dealership where i purchased it and explained the issue and they said they may help towards it . surely i should not have to pay towards it should i ?? Thanks in advance

If its not a factory fitted part, Ford can't be expected to pay for it, If its a dealer fitted tow bar, your argument is with the dealer, or if you had it fitted by a tow bar specialist , you should be chasing them, I know its not what you want to hear, but that is the way it works. I would have thought your first contact should be the dealer that sold you the van.But as they were not the dealership that did the work , they may not be willing to pay all of other dealerships bill, all you can do at this stage is see what they are offering.

Thanks for the reply i appreciate what you are saying but although the tow bar is not a ford part it was on the van that was sold to me from them and its causing the van issues with draining the battery. Hopefully i should hear tomorrow what the outcome is

Probably only enough wires to stretch from here to Uranus in a custom can't think what they were doing for that long :?

That's about 1.8 billion miles btw :)

I would have said the dealer that has sold it to you should have a responsibility to sell you a vehicle that is 100% and without any electrical faults

Good news the dealers that i purchased from have have honored my local dealers bill,no quibbles at all so got the result that i was hoping for. With hindsight i really should have rang the dealership that i had purchased it from to let them know the van had issues, only i thought it was a warranty issue. Full credit to both dealerships for what they have done. I know my local has taken a bit to get it sorted but from the itemised work its had a thorough look at and they have supplied me a new custom free of charge from day 1 so i can still go about my business :D
