leaking oil from engine

Hi,

I am newbie in here. But need some advise. I hit something on the ground while driving my Custom 2014 and now it leaks oil. It is defo from the joint as seen on the pictures.

What is the part of the engine block called that is damaged?

Looks like the gearbox(bell housing) you've hit.
The leak will be from inside the gearbox I think and will need closer inspection possibly removal.
Looks like a fair crack as you've removed parts of the fins.

The damage doesn't look like it causing the leak to me, I had a leak, only slight wetting on that joint when the van was nearly new. You need to work out if its gear oil or engine oil, they used to smell totally different, I've not been hands on for some time so not sure its the same with new gear oils.

Thanks. Going to give the engine a wash so hopefully I can see where else is leaking.

Also, thinking of giving my local Ford dealer a ring and ask for a wider engine check. Wondering what this will cost me...

After speaking with a friend who knows cars we think that the crankshaft seal must be leaking. How big of a job this would be?

Can someone recommend a mechanic who could check this and replace it? I'm in Edinburgh area and the van has 100k.

From reading around the internet I found out that even brand new seals might be leaking too... so not sure what to do
