2013 custom auxiliary belt idlers

Postby TPM961 » Tue Apr 03, 2018 11:32 am

Recently bought a swb limited 125 transit custom and absolutely love it!

Gave it a good service, discovered the aux belt was a bit perished so replaced it. One of the belt idlers was a bit noisy and I'd have liked to take it off to have a look, but needed the van on the road.
These idler pulleys seem very expensive... I was wondering if anyone had managed to replace just the bearings? From looking at pictures it looks entirely possible that the bearing is removable. I'd guess at 6002 size.
Anyone know if it's possible?
Cheers

Just hire a van for the day and swap over what you need

I had a VW T4 with an idler that sounded completely knackered, it went noisey travelling to work 250 miles away from home and I didn't want to get stuck on the way back only option was to try and lube it, I poped out the bearing seal and pumped in some grease, I hoped it would get me home, well I had that van for another 3 years and about 50k+ miles never heard another peep out of it.

That might be an option considering it's just a bit dry, there's no play in It and it rotates freely and isn't notchy. Think I'll remove them and work out if the bearings are replaceable, if they are i'll order some but greese the existing for now regardless as I can't have it off the road for long

For anyone who was wondering - the bearings are not replaceable. They appear to be formed into the pulley. I attempted to press one out and it wasn't budging. They might be Loctite'd in but i couldn't exert enough force onto the bearing without starting to deform the pulley.
