Thought I'd right up my thoughts etc on my Sportvan after 10,000 miles and see what others have found etc
Average mpg over 10k was 34.1 mpg - didn't think that was too bad, 3 mile journey to work and back plus running round town then once or twice a week a mix of A-roads and motorway for about 100miles. I've reset trip no.1 for the next 10k miles and see what mpg I get, having split trips is quite good if you're geeky like that.
Its gone through 5 gallon of Adblue plus what was in the tank from Ford - just been filled with about 4 gallons and we'll see how far we get with this fill.
Tyres is shocking, had 6 punctures in 6 months!! front tyres were almost to the wear limits, have now been changed to Uniroya M&S winter tyres (just ready for summer lol) as these are a bit heavier duty and hopefully might last better??? The punctures is wierd, I've had 4 transits mk 7 140, Custom SWB 155, Custom LWB hi roof 125, and now the Sport Van. Never bought a tryre for the other vans and only had 1 puncture then have 6 in 6 months, the tyres are heavy duty car tyres and in my opinion no fit for the use. They are Conti 235 55 17.
Throttle sometimes hangs between 1st and second gear as though the cable is stuck???
LED lights in the back are fantastic
The 170 engine is much better than the 155, pulls from lower revs much better and holds speed better however still not as good as the Mk 7 140, there is hill near me called ash fell, its probably a 1:7 something like that?? the old Mk7 would sit at 60 on cruise control all the way up in top gear in that no bother, the 155 and the 170 both can't hold 60 and drop until the cruise drops out and you have to drop two gears to get going again.
Overall, I like the van but the tyres thing is diabolical, next time I'll go back to a Limited and have proper van tyres on 16" the bling of the 17 or18" isn't worth it in my opinion however the 17" wheels are very easy to keep clean.
