Caught speeding twice in one day

Postby matt0105 » Sat Apr 28, 2018 11:44 am

Hi All
I have received 2 letters of intending prosecution for speeding, these letters state it was a mobile
van camera, on this stretch of road I did not see these however I’m happy to take what comes to me
Just wondering if anyone else has had this and what am I expecting points fine etc.
Excessive speed 83 & 94 in a 70 mph.

Were they on the same stretch of road one after the other? If so you could argue that you never slowed down between them and as such it's one offence! :D

I've rebuilt a Defender, several motorcycles and quite a bit to both a Mk6 & 7 Transit. Now bought a new Custom and just doing a few small bits to it.

I presume that you were driving a van either on a motorway or a van with car derived side windows and registered as such on a dual carriageway to quote your max allowed national limit. If not, you may be in for a suprise as on single carriageways your maximum speed is 50mph and on a dual carriageway with a central reservation 60mph. Points, plus fine, plus ban depending on your previous points if any ,on your licence. I don`t think a speed awareness option will be considered although you may be very lucky on one count. Good luck. I`ve been there!!

83mph on a motorway is unfortunate and close to the prosecution limit but should get you the offer of a speed awareness course (as long as you’re not a habitual speeder), the other offence will probably get you 6 points and 150% of your weekly wage as a fine.......or a short ban.

"excessive speed 83 & 94 in a 70 mph"

New speeding laws came into effect in March 2017

If that's on a dual carriage way your limit is 60 for a Transit custom Van - aggravating factor

It works out as....

1st 83mph you're 23mph over the limit -- Band B speeding offence - 4- 6 penalty points or 7-28 days disqualification & fined 100% of weekly wage
2in 94mph you're 34mph over the limit -- Band C speeding offence - 6 penalty points or 7-56 days disqualification & fined 150% of weekly wage

If that's on a motorway your limit is 70 for a Transit custom Van.

It works out as....

1st 83mph you're 13mph over the limit -- Band A speeding offence - 3 penalty points & fined 50% of weekly wage
2nd 94mph you're 24mph over the limit -- Band B speeding offence - 4- 6 penalty points or 7-28 days disqualification & fined 100% of weekly wage

You are making an assumption that he knows the national speed limits for his vehicle Mike. Like many others, he may not!!

No, I’m making the assumption he can read what it says on the NIP. Evidence on this threads suggest that I’m expecting too much of a Transit driver.

Just a heads up for anyone heading to Cornwall, the speed camera vans have been milking the "cash cow" around Cornwall services on the A30 for the past month or so, "Waze app" on the phone has saved the day a few times.
