New Shape Custom auto 130 or 170?

Hello all I'm new here and I'm looking to buy my first custom van which will also be my first auto in a van, question is....how do you guys find the 130ps with the auto? does it need to be the 170 engine? not looking for speed or anything just how smooth the ride is as I do a lot of mixed driving....

also I'm going to get a limited spec and I'm looking to put on these extras but I was wondering if there is any other useful bits to get added on

HID lights
Adaptive cruise
LED lights to the rear
230 socket between to the seats
blind spot eliminator
rear view camera

anyways many thanks in advanced!!!

Also, if you don't need the double passenger seat, consider ordering the van with a single passenger seat, much more comfortable, with the double seat, nether passengers feet line up with the foot well, so they tend to sit twisted , really uncomfortable on a longish trip.

I will bare that in mind but I will probably need the double seat on occasions :D

I mean getting led lighting added in the rear of the van 8) makes it easier to see when I'm looking through my kit for certain boiler parts

I've got a 170 auto full fat Transit.

The auto is lovely to drive.

Personally I find the 130 too gutless, although the custom is a bit lighter so probably not as bad.

In terms of smoothness, the 130 would be fine.
The power is limited in the map, at lower revs the performance is identical.

yeah looks like ill be looking at the 170 auto as I don't fancy a gutless van, what do you normally return mpg wise?

Consistent average is 36 mpg. That's a lot of long distance driving mostly at the speed limits... Not great.

What are you expecting its quite a large vehicle

that don't sound too bad....I'm currently driving a berlingo thats doing 50-51mpg :shock: , but its cramped as anything in there haha. thanks for you help pal I think I'm gonna go get a 170 custom this weekend 8)

If you want it to start with a 4 , then suggest you get a 130 manual.

Mine does 40-41 average per tank most of the time, especially on long trips at 70.
I was well impressed when I first got mine - I know the official figures are around 44, but most cars only get about 70% of the official figures, so to get within 10% is quite good.

I can't imagine that the auto box is going to help either, or the 170, tho not sure how much difference that makes, as it is basically the same engine

I've actually achieved it today.... 42 mpg....

But I've only achieved that as I had an unusually quiet day with just one inspection in London. 60 mph all the way down and back. Going to 70 kills it.

Personally I think the auto box needs another cog... It's running at about 2,300 revs - feels like it should be 2,000...
