Radio advice please

Postby Trendy Dave » Sat Jun 02, 2018 10:18 am

Hi all, my first post in this section since buying a 2015 trend...
Well impressed with it so far after 4 years of owning an old 2008 Vivaro.
Can anyone tell me if there is a standard Ford DAB radio i can replace mine with ?
2 things i really miss are my DAB and aircon...

My van has dab on but I can't get a reception  haven't tried looking at the antenna or anything.

My radio is the standard nav and dab version.

The centre screen is bigger and is a colour lcd 1 which also does the reverse camera.
You'd need probably a few things to upgrade and possibly configuring at Ford but I'm not sure.
You can buy a fascia.

Bloody steep though !

A point I'd make is that I wouldn't touch it unless my van was all low spec instruments etc as it is all can bus.

Mine is high spec speedo with large colour display and centre lcd display with sat nav and front and reverse sensors.

Can't imagine what removing my stereo would do to the van 8)

Standard small blue display low spec would probably be more like the mk7 so probably a straight swap :P

cheers for the info, mine is the trend model with the small blue lcd screen, no sat nav or reverse camera, although i do have front and rear parking sensors.
I will take it to a proper audio specialist for some professional advice i think

Did you ever get an answer to this?

I have the basic radio/bluetooth head unit with no nav/cd/separate screen. My front left speaker output is broken so I need to replace the head unit. I have just found this Ford unit on Ebay, from a connect but seems to be the same dimensions but it says it also has DAB built in. I was thinking if I am going to replace the HU anyway, it might be worth going for an upgrade if possible.

Not sure what coding is required though, does anyone know?

Yeah I know that's why I was asking.

I was thinking Ford might put the same head unit in both the custom and and connect to save money and only have 1 set of parts.

It looks to be the same size, has the same connector...could it be possible? I know I'll probably end up buying it anyway and being the guinea pig for this :-)

It looks more slanted and like the fiesta 1, there's usually 3 pieces, the keypad then the cd part and the processor and then the display.

Transit custom parts are BK21-

All the modules all have a vin number for that vehicle, I have very limited understanding of whether they are all programmed specifically to the vehicle at production or if they can be installed. Also whether they can be installed second hand with the vin number being different.

Usually you use ids and configure the vehicle to the spec you want ie with sat nav, with 4 speakers.
But on the custom I don't know whether it is possible. There are 2 or 3 types of display, and different radio versions, cd, sat nav, dab, parking assist etc, there may be a lot of varying options available and that sounds good for us but we need to understand the relationships of the modules and if a pre vin module will work correctly in another van.

I'd like to know all this but I have the top spec for my van so it is not important to me to achieve, the 2018 facelift custom has sync 3 which is like to retrofit but it is expensive at the moment.

I've still looking at this but won't time for a while.

I've plugged forscan in, but no ACM shows up. What I "think" is the case is this:

The basic radio's don't have VIN or coding, they might just need a normal radio code to unlock if put in another vehicle

If you have anything else - CD player/ Nav - the ACM module is in the CD player part behind the dash and probably will need some kind of recode using IDS/Forscan.

Part number wise, apart from the leading model characters, the actual part number for radio unit is the same for both custom and connect

DT1T-18D815

BK2T-18D815

This would be similar to VW/Seat/Audi etc which use same parts and usually interchangeable. For example I fitted a VW Golf window motor to a Seat Leon with same part number but different model part number

I've had pictures of them side by side and they look identical physically, with 4 attachment brackets 2 on top 2 on bottom. I've JUST jumped on a new listing for one for £25 so I'll let you know how it goes.

Good News!!

I bought this DAB head unit from a transit connect for just over £25

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292816574146

It was a straight swap, exactly the same connectors and antenna connector and 4 mounting points.

I flashed it up, no radio code was required it worked straight away. It fixed my speaker problem and now I also have DAB!!!!

Hi Sieade245 I've just read you old post and was wanting to get DAB in my works Transit as it has just come with the standard Bluetooth radio ....am I right in saying you just remove the standard one and put in the new one with a model number beginning DT1T-18D815....is the normal aerial ok or do I need to add a specific DAB ONE as well.

thanks in advance Dave
