ford uni cam aftermarket camera input for 4" screen

Postby Applecom » Sat Jun 30, 2018 8:31 pm

my custom limited did not come with the reverse camera, I have been looking at the kits available, I cam across a patch lead so you can use the existing 4" radio display screen and use your own choice of reverse camera, I have only seen it on US web sites, they are plug and play some versions need programming and some auto program, these ae not "y" boxes that cut an existing video source and put in the camera.

cant find anything in the UK

here is one of the videos

i wonder where one would put the wires for the camera and whether it's worth me installing a bit of conduit under the ply floor i'm about to install :?:

So after looking into this and much reading the cheapest option was to eBay a 5” sat nave screen from the fiesta or focus.

I did £100 on eBay for a used screen ( there are a few for sale) and £5 on a GPS aerial

The main reason was to have the screen with camera input available.

The instal took seconds with no wiring and I now have sat nav.

Do you think that any late Ford already fitted with a satnav screen, and GPS, can upgrade to a rear view camera easily :?:

Yes a cheap £20 camera from eBay will do, you need a HSD 4 pin socket £6 and make your own lead, I am holding off for a genuine Ford camera, so I can (with a modication) get the lines on the screen to show the Sterling angel

Great info, thanks.

I have a 2012 Focus with just about everything on it, except a reversing camera. When I asked on a Focus page, no-one really knew, but some were waffling on about sync 3 being needed to upgrade it. I have no idea what sync that I have, so I left it alone.

I have a cheap camera here, so I'll source the plug and lead and try it. If it works, I'll look for a pukka camera :)

Great info!
Is it just the LCD we need or the CD player part too? How are the buttons mapped now - do you have to press radio for maps etc?

Thanks!
