Oil Dilution Recall

Postby wild camper » Thu Aug 02, 2018 6:13 am

My 2017 2.0 ecoblue 130ps Custom goes into the Ford Agent next Monday for a Recall. All the info. I can get from the receptionist is that it’s a software upgrade. Anyone had it done to their Custom and what it’s all about?
The receptionist said it affects other Ford Cars.
I did a forum search before placing this, “snake oil” kept coming up but I can’t get into the threads to read them. I’m using an iPhone and sometimes it doesn’t pick up all the information on a website forum.
Any information would be appreciated.

Hi, Snake Oil is about mixing an additive in to the diesel in the tank to make the engine run better. Normally two stroke oil.

The Dilution of oil would I think most likely be caused by diesel fuel ending up in the sump. This wound normally be an injector problem. With modern diesel engines this I assume could be solved with a software update to recalibrate injectors or timing.

I have no knowledge of the recall but would be interested to find out more when you get this booked in.

Do you check your oil levels on a regular basis? Have you noticed if the oil level has risen?

I check the oil level about once a fortnight, it’s OK, nearly full after a 27k service when I got the van in June, no sign of increased oil level. I’ve just found a long recent thread about oil change warning light coming on at short intervals (can’t remember the exact title) but it seems to touch on my problem. I had a replacement EGR valve under warranty about 2K ago, that started with an Adblue warning light. I’m going to put a touch of paint on the dipstick “handle” so I can tell if it’s changed. The van is booked in at 0800hrs so I can wait while it’s done. I will post a comment with anything I learn when it’s done on Monday.

The van went in for the recall this morning, the receptionist was surprised that I had not had warning messages about “oil change required”
The Recall is “18b14 oil dilution Recall” and involves a PCM recalibration. This is what I got verbally off the receptionist, he couldn’t give me anything in the way of a report either before or after the work was done.
The oil and filter was not changed.
The dipstick was not changed.
The Technician who specialises in Transits was on holiday, so the whole reason for choosing a “Transit Specialist” was of no great benefit.
I asked them to look into why the fan comes on seconds after starting from cold (intermittent) but they said I’d have to bring it back another day! It’s a good job I’m retired and have time on my hands, it must be murder for a working tradesman who relies on his van for a living.
I’ll start a new thread about the fan coming on to see if there’s any history on it (after doing a forum search of course.
It seems like the Recall has been previously covered by the thread “2.0L euro6 oil requires change after 3K”, I did do a search first but missed it using my iPhone. I read the whole story while waiting in service reception.
