18 inch tyre conundrum

Postby loot » Fri Aug 17, 2018 11:00 pm

This has probably been covered loads but the answers aren't clear, so I'll ask the question anyway and a grunt in either direction it's fine

The sport tyre I've just googled it's 235 50 18 yes? But having compared the standard 16 inch tyre I have on my van I get a matched tyre at 245 45 18.

I think the second 1 will be wider, I'm just looking at alloy wheels and whether to get them with tyres already or if I can source tyres cheap enough off separately.

Has anyone come across a good manufacturer and size for their wheels?

I don't think I'll be paying 300+ for 4 main branded tyres, nor will I buy a set of xyz kangs for 200.

But mid range brand, grip, db I think.

Accelera i like :-)

Seen some in the 245 45 18 variety.
:-)

Ideas, links anyone? Including forum link that I've missed

nowt wrong with hifly.
good all round tyre.
they have the same grip in all weather conditions.
Dry/wet/snow.
absolutly no grip whatsoever in any of the above.
They keep you awake and on your toes which is a plus.
Driving sideways becomes second nature.

the money you save buying them can go towards a winch.
or a device that allows you to pass through solid objects un harmed.

 problem i had with said hifly was wearing out unevenly
Like being out of round
The Chevrolet has hiflys all round but that only goes to lidil and back and to the anal.bleaching clinic once a month at speeds of less than 48mph And all is good , perfect
The van just goes up and down the motorway at high speed (50mph+ :P )
So i take every effort not to have a high speed explosion :D

Accelera are decent budget tyres,

Personally I found the 50 profiles much nicer to drive on

Hmm from sight I can see that the circumferential range looks a bit different to my wheels :-(

I'll bring my cordless so we can wangle the holes wider and a mallet to persuade them on

I love being an engineer, so satisfying won't you agree Al

Just redrill the stud holes further up the spokes, and put some stickers over the originals

If we're careful, it won't look shoddy or bodged .................................................... much  :P

I'm not a proper engineer, I haven't been certified, I should really try and get something photoshopped
