'78 Mk2 Transit Auto Sleeper Van Conversion

Postby 103keef » Sun Mar 04, 2018 4:09 pm

Bought this as a project to convert back to a Van. Single wheel 100 Auto Sleeper pop top.
Apparently it is quite a rare model having wooden panels in the pop top rather than the normal canvas.
It does need a lot of bodywork and being potentially rare, think I will pass on and just look for a panel van.
It's a bit of a strange one as log book states year of manufacture as 1978 but has square lights. It was originally from the Isle of man and came over in 1987.
It starts, runs & drives (currently using a remote tank under bonnet) but will make loading a lot easier. 1600 Pinto engine which sounds sweet with no cam rattle.
There is a lot of rust though!
Bonnet is totally shot. Wings may be repairable but probably want replacing. Front panel crispy in places. Front of chassis will need some repairs but rest is remarkably solid.
Steps will need some patching. Rear arches gone. It's had outer sills at some point but the bottom of 1/4 panels will need repairs or replacing.
Doors should be saveable. Windscreen scuttle and A pillars look solid.
Interior is rank and will need ripping out and rear doing.
Anyway, there's loads of good parts on it, bumpers look undamaged.
Save it or break it, you decide.
I will be removing the front axle for my Mk1 but will put the drum brake axle back on it to keep it mobile. Unless you have an axle to deal with.
Currently in Swindon but will move it to Reading next weekend. Will also take some pics and see if I can figure out how to upload them here.
I'd imagine it would probably fetch 500+ on ebay but would rather sell to someone on here so if you can collect before 17th March, £400 would take it.

Now stored in Reading.
If your quick (ie before I sell my trailer) and not a million miles away, I may be able to deliver.

Original rubber mat hidden under the carpet was a nice surprise.
Couple of people have enquired about buying the V5. Presumably because it's tax exempt?
May consider breaking if enough interest.

No, still got it.
I've stripped all the camper interior as I wanted to see how bad the floor and inner sills were.
Didn't get any immediate interest in the complete van so had agreed to sell some of the parts to people that had enquired. Just haven't got round to stripping anything else off it yet!

I’d be interested in the full thing , not fussed about camper gear tbh if you’ve already got it out

Give me a shout if you can please 07770927234
