1988 Mk3 Ex-Camper Project

1988 Ford Transit (F Reg) Mk3 short wheelbase (ex-campervan) which would be the perfect conversion project for someone. It was completely empty when we got it, and our intention was to re-convert it, but it's more work than we have the time to do. It is SORN'd and its last MOT pass was 2014. We purchased it in 2015 and it has been off-the-road for the last three and a bit years.

It's just been taken for an MOT but failed, with a lot of welding (and other) work needed. Unfortunately, we don't have workshop space to do this.

She runs, but will massively benefit from a properly-tuned Weber carb. 4 speed gearbox. Rear-wheel drive.

Mileage is 09460, but given the age, I would presume it's been around the clock once.

What we've done...
Whilst it's been off-the-road, we haven't just been sitting around.

  • The frame surrounding the windscreen (the A-pillars) have been completely rebuilt, owing to someone's dodgy windscreen repair in the past. Secured in that is a brand new windscreen.

  • The cylinder head has had hardened exhaust valve seals installed, meaning that the bullet-proof 1.6L Pinto engine runs on Unleaded

  • We installed a 2.0L camshaft, which technically takes it half-way to a 1.6GT (it needs a Weber carburetor to make the most of this, as the 1.6 is severely under-powered, we just didn't get around to doing it)

  • The engine got a full service - new plugs, leads, air filter, oil filter, oil, rotor arm, distributor cap, coolant, fan belt, cam belt, oil spray bar and water pump.

  • Replaced all the locks.

  • Brand new battery fitted in the last two months, with a brand new battery tray and hold-down clamp.

  • Sky-light in fibreglass removed, cleaned, and fully re-sealed.

  • Removed old driver's seat (was completely knackered) and replaced with a more modern seat. Both front seats are on swivel bases for easy rotation.

  • Diagnosed and fixed some electrical faults, and replaced all bulbs.

The van will also come with some bits and pieces that the new owner may find useful, including new gearbox oil, some fibreglass repair bits and some service parts.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. No time wasters please.

Buyer will have to collect or make arrangements themselves. The van is SORN'd and there is no MOT, so will require a truck or trade plates.
