SWB Mk5 Transit Ex RAC? BT? Tourneo?

Postby swtransit » Tue Jan 08, 2013 2:39 am

Ideally would like a EX RAC Mk5 Transit, but happy to consider others.

SWB Only
TD preferred, but DI motor OK
More windows and seats the better
Must have at least 2 months MOT

Searching for something that wants for nothing, has low mileage and has lots of mot/tax. But happy to consider something that needs work etc.

Bristol based, but willing to travel

My 6 seater Mk5 Hallmark will be up for sale shortly i'm afraid :(

Simply because i have too many vehicles :!:
What sort of budget or money you looking at spending ? Good (read 'not rotten') mk5s are holding there money thru there renowned reliability and ease/cheapness of repairs against newer ones.........

Happy to pay a fair price in relation to condition, and you're right, nothing like a good smiley! Hence why I want one! :)

Used to own an ex council swb 2.0dohc with LPG system fitted from new, such a good van and pretty nippy too! If anyone has one of these I'd be interested too, but you don't see them very often. Ah, how I miss that thing, it was solid and had tailgate, perspex lined out, hot water sink etc.

You have my interest, can you give me any more details? Price, mileage, mot, year etc? Any pics?

Thanks!

Brief description
Metallic Auralis (1 of 200 in this esc.cosworth colour) blue `96 on a N plate 76ps banana Hallmark,All usual Hallmark bits,HFS,EW,Electric heated Mirrors,CL,Pas,5 alloys,pen holder,trinket tray,fancy interior lamp,cup holder the lot ! :lol:

3 seater (custom) fronts,3 seat row behind driver with 3 point belts,properly fitted !
Rear doors have 'mirrored' windows with grilles on inside,i have (but not fitted) green tint tourneo sliders for both sides (side door and opposite panel)
Have fitted full length tourneo headlining with working map lights and have (again not fitted) a genuine ford (ex AA) steel bulkhead with a window that is custom fit behind rear seats to make it a full 'crew' van......
Has a towbar fitted,
Done around 184k miles but has the most comprehensive history ive ever seen :o ,oil changed every 6K (still clean when dipped and uses non :shock: ) and everything else has been replaced (and is documented) over years with gen ford parts,drives like its new and does around 460 miles per tank local,seen 500 on a run at 70/80 mph.......
MOT till end of August,tax end of April,3 previous owners.

Bad points of the top of my head;

Doesn't always turn off with key first time,like that when i got it and is no better or worse,probably crap under stop solenoid plunger.....
solenoid is 'tight' and would need a large crowfoot/abuse or injection pump off i think to remove,van runs so well otherwise i didnt want to risk damaging solenoid and making it a non-runner trying to remove,or couldnt justify taking pump off for the gain,i just put up with it :oops:

Drivers seat base is worn on edge,poor really but ive had covers on and been looking out for a mint 'custom' trimmed seat to replace it........
Reverse lights dont always work (suspect switch sticking)
Rev counter usually stops working if heated screen is on,
N/s rear door has a small dent near number plate,o/s has the 'usual' rot across bottom outer edge,(i was gonna just replace both)

Exhaust tailpipe has fallen off after silencer,this will be sorted before sale,sounds & drives no different !

Oh,and being picky.........indicators dont self cancel :roll: (switch)

Van has had nearly every outer panel replaced so is totally solid and rot free,rear crossmember was done in 50 x 50 box section !
Front crossmember was gen. ford,wing gaps/panels arent 'concours' in my eyes,its been waxoyled/sealed on rebuild but final prep and paint finish is best described as 'poor' has orange peel etc...
Van is totally solid,no frilly arches here and will stay like this for years,looks great cleaned and ten feet away but paint finish is rubbish in places close up :(
I will clean it when i get chance and take some current pics.....
Until then....

Seen on pics here;
