AUTOMATIC TRANSIT or VAN NEEDED in west sussex. Now got one!

Postby Richieintransit » Fri May 13, 2011 7:25 pm

Hi there everyone, I have not been on this site for a while as I stupidly sold my lovely old transit
I would ideally like another smiley as they are the last of the decent proper automatics, a lwb h/t would be great but anything considered as long as your not too far away or are willing to bring it to chichester area, I'm disabled so collection at distance would be difficult, I'd love another transit asap as I'm moving soon, really need a good reliable auto, don't mind a little rust if it's cheap enough,
anything considered
send me a message asap if you have an auto and thinking of or want to sell
no gearbox failing ones please!

haha yes already made an offer on that one but it's too far away for me and I asked him if he'd deliver for 1800 cash which I thinks a really good offer but i'm still waiting for a reply, he has turned down 1750 from someone else apparantly, I sold my x reg one the same for just 1600 with 87k on it so I think 1750 was a good offer but i'm happy to pay the extra bit for delivery and supply cups of tea and a lift to the station! hopefully he will get back to me soon!
I have also found a 2006 one for 3500 but not sure what the gearboxes were like on that year, were they fully auto? and were they the apparantly awful durashift???
Hope someone out there has a good auto for sale hopefully not too far away or willing to deliver if it is a way away
thanks guys
I love automatic transits,,, well not the mk 6 durashit

Well, with a guaranteed automatic gearbox and the van in generally good condition, I very much doubt you'll find to many of these (as you already know and have said) last of the proper Transit autos :!:
The 2001 to 2006 auto Transits, have the infamous durashift, which have proved to be a complete bottomless money pit of a nightmare when they go wrong :!:
And they don't even drive like an auto   No creep, can roll back on a hill, difficult to park in confined spaces and the gearbox can be too busy changing gears when you want to be merging with other traffic :!:

did they do an auto after 2006??
durashift does sound rubbish, but i found a 2006 transit auto for 3500 which looks nice and of course is nearly 10 years newer, so i'm tempted by it, what's the main problem with the durashifts, is it that if they go wrong you can't work on them or is it the electrics? is there any way of putting the old gearbox in a newer transit?? I quite like the look of the new ones, I think smileys are great vans but looking a bit old now and most are rotted away, but i'd still have another at the right price! the one on ebay would be mine if i could just somehow collect it as its miles away!

They haven't fitted an auto box to a Transit since the last of the MK5's in 2000, and no, they can't be fitted easily to the MK6 engines, if they could, Andyg would have done it by now :!:

they did the durashift until 2006 though, so what about after that? surely ford should realise that in this day and age there is a massive demand for auto's it's just they cost too much but many people woukld prefer them really, you only have to look at prestige cars to see that, and take america for example where u have to pay a grand more for manual!, that's why all the motability vans are vito's and french rubbish then I suppose,,, ford, take my advice, start doing a proper auto again at a competative price and you'll sell by the shed load, your van looks too good to be a just builders van!

My friend and myself are both disabled (I have a Mk5 auto :D ) but need to upgrade and can't find a suitable automatic van. I came across this company but there is other companies around the uk do the same conversion, there was one on ebay doing the conversion for £995 but there in Derby. He is a link and this may be a way to get a Mk6 auto.

Hope this is of some use,

Sorry to say, but that looks like a complete waste of time :!:

"Fixed" to a specific time of engagement is certainly of no use in London/burbs :!:

If you're gonna have a VW, why not get a proper automatic one :?:

The latest model has a DSG auto, but how good, we'll find out when the MK8 Transit comes out with it

I won't be able to afford a my 8!!! unless it's cheap

I went to go and have a look at the ex harrods one but the bloke sold it,,,, gutted,

someone on here must have an auto for sale surely!??? I will pay over the odds for a really nice one,
I'll even consider a petrol!!

wow the mk 8 gonna have dsg! Brilliant now that's a bloody god box,, my only hope is they can make a rwd one with that box in as all the vw stuff is front wheel drive which i hate,,, but the dsg is great in the 4x4 stuff and even the fwd things it's a good auto, just might not be in the tranny if it means it's got to be fwd!
did the mk7 not even have the durashift? just man trans??

It wasn't ment to advertise the VW just what could be done, I've not found anyone that uses one to ask there opinion, think I'd need to test drive before making a final decision on it. What I think is a bit scarey is a loose conection and bang your into the car in front at a set of lights or something. It doesn't say about fail safe devices if any are fitted.
Sorry it's of no use to you but hey you checked it out and lost nothing so if one like that is offered you can say no from the start.

But Ford had a better version in the MK5 with the banana engine :!:
It was called "auto clutch" :!: :D
The design was such that you didn't have to press any buttons, just foot off the accelerator pedal and select your gear :|

Right guys i've picked up a p reg smiley today, no mot but she's done just 51k!!! quite a bit of body rust but underneath she looks solid, she's a 2.5 diesel auto,
I can't remember if my old transit was slow at going into gear after selecting drive but this one is, I'm hoping it's just in need of a bit more atf, but what atf shall I use???
going for mot tomorrow covered in gaffa tape so fingers crossed!!
