They're fitted with shear bolts to stop people nicking them

I remove these by breaking off the casing or remains of the casing to expose the bolt heads, drilling two small holes at 180 degrees on the head of the shear bolts, then drilling a larger hole in the centre to link these smaller holes together, then using a large flatblade screwdriver to remove. New mirror fits on using normal M6 bolts, 'cause no-one ever orders the correct ones.

As said, they are fitted with shear bolts, you will need to drill them out.

When you refit with new M6 set screws, be sure to use suitable size washers

in what way :?:
just take plastic caps (3) of mirror body undo bolts ,if you have a repeater indicator fitted this will need removing all so,any wiring for electric mirrors will need uncoupling

I've just changed mine after getting hit by another van last night. I DIDN'T need to use anything other than an 8mm socket on a 5cm stem - no drilling required.

The one I got from a scrapyard came off the same way.... Two minute job and nothing technical to contend with.

Don't think they used shear bolts on mk6 mirrors, and ppl rarely fit them so probably a lot of mk7s that have had mirrors replaced won't have any either.

Replacement sheer boots available from ford just be careful as you ca now overtighten the mirror and snap the mirror xasting lug before the bolt snaps

Security bolts, the head shers off once you tighten them to stop people being able to undo them.
They also used to use them on stering columns

Drill into the centre and use a thread extractor that tightens on as you loosen it
