Postby transit mark » Sat Dec 15, 2012 6:39 pm

When i removed the dash i found this wiring plug tapped to the loom, behind the fuse box. Any one know what its for?

Also found these wire taped up in the loom going across under the window, is it ment to be joined like this?

 I don't like the look of that blue wire junction, definitely not standard :?

Reference the blue wires, just been out to the van. Bloody hell thats cold with no dash and 2 holes into the engine bay where the heater would be.

On the left (3 wires)

Blue - No Stripe
Blue - Orange Stripe
Blue - Red Stripe

On the right side (2 wires)

Blue - No Stripe
Blue - Black Stripe

The blue wire with no stripe does seem a little thicker than the rest.

That could be standard but with no insulation.

I had a look at Haynes and it appears to be your LH indicator wiring. Diagram 20 location J6

It shows a junction with 5 wires the same colors as you described.

Bu/Bk to RH indicator warning light
Bu/Og to LH Front direction indicator
Bu/Rd to LH Side repeater
Solid Bu to Multi function switch
Solid Bu to Trailer connection/LH rear indicator

Looks like the diagram has LH and RH mixed up a bit... But that is what is says.

There is also another junction shown of 6 blue wires of different stripes that is to do with the indicators on the other side.

Hope that helps but no guarantee that the diagram is correct or that I am looking at the right bit.

That's the indicator wires mate, have you got one or two indicator warning lamps in your cluster?
The wiring looms differ slightly but they do join blue wires with different coloured tracers together!

The two indicator wires exit the combination switch;
blue/red for right hand, (goes to the right hand rear lamp), this joins to blue/white for the right hand repeater lamp, blue for the right hand front indicator and blue yellow for the cluster.
Again from the combination switch;
blue for the left hand side, (goes to the left hand rear lamp), this joins to blue red for the left hand front indicator, blue black for the left hand repeater lamp and blue black for the cluster.

These colours should be correct for a 95-00 non turbo di but there are some variations, if you confirm the model and age of your van together with the number, (one or two), of indicator warning lamps you have in your cluster, I will happily confirm that this information is correct for your van.

They should at least have some insulation over them!

Hi Tim,

R reg 1997 LWB van

I have 1 warning light in my cluster, i have a transit set of clocks with rev counter. Id also like to get the trailer indicator warning light working.

I don't suppose you would have a mk5 dashboard and a heater box with the matrix and blower motor in floating around?

Hi mate, I'll have another look at the wiring diagrams in the morning.

I did post on your progress thread about the heater box, yes there is one at the yard, you are welcome to pop up and take it out mate. If the dash is better than yours, help yourself, the dash and heater need to come out to make way for a larger engine :D

Give us a shout on the works number, 07754 806004, if you want to pop up.

Re the wiring issues,
 didn't see the post above, apologies to Johnsvan

The plug behind the fuse box is probably the one for the central locking & rear electrics (tailgate etc) the rear lights are done on the other similar plug you can see in the pic

I'm not sure what the other one is for.

I have an X reg, with a good dash, electric windows, central locking, electric mirrors, heater assy (non recirc, but I have a recirc one too!), rear headlining etc etc which I will break... its in Haywards Heath

I read somewhere the yellow 2 pin plug is speedo related...
Vehicle speed sensor

Might be used for tacho or something? Someone in ere was asking if it could tie into a gps unit for the speed I recall !
