Ford Transit Mk1 and 2 Owners Club

Postby FredTransit » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:09 am

Had a little scan through the clubs in Practical Classic today, to see if the Transit Van Club was listed. It wasn't but what was, was the Ford Transit Mk1 and 2 Owners Club. I wasn't aware of it! I noticed that it stops at Mk2, which is an interesting concept!! As it was in the magazine, the number for them is 07944203670. I haven't rung yet, so know no more information. Anybody heard of them?

Why are pratical classics still advertising it then? I saw it only yesterday! and I think that this one will last a bit longer, knowing Peter! Why don't the clubs last?

ford transit mk1 and 2 owners club

Postby ovlov » Thu Jul 21, 2005 8:50 pm

:shock:Im having a moan today, I assume that the club needs funds to run it, Ive just sent Peter a tenner to join it. But having been on the forum for about a month, I didnt know about the subscription fee and it took a bit to actually find it, I was just wondering how many of the 250 plus reg members on the forum know about the subs fee and the actual club surely the club site should be at the top of the forum not down the bottom, or am i just been a bit thick well thats my moan over for today

Ovlov, maybe you are confusing the club with the forum, they are two seperate things. The Forum came first and Luke was good enough to put in a section about the Club.

sorry for any confusion ive put a post at the top of the page to make it clear for the future!!

I included the transit club section to allow peter to get across any news on the club to the members as most people check the forum more regularly than the club website!!! :D

but i think most regular forum users will join the club aswell, like mark says its only a tenner and we have allready experianced one superb well organised event and there can only be more to come!!! :D

owners clubs in general

Postby MRspivvy » Mon Sep 05, 2005 2:10 am

This is only my personal experience, but I joined the Ford cortina owners club a few years back, and didnt like them at all. Part of it is my own fault for living in wales, there were never any events going on within reasonable travelling distance, something I have found to be the case with a number of owners clubs. the couple of events I did make it to seemed to be full of rich businessmen trying to re-live their youth with chequebook restored better than new 1600Es, who sneered down their noses at still-in-everyday-use mk3s and 4s, "what? no, its too good to actually drive, I use a mondeo everyday!" neither was I made to feel particularly welcome. I have tended to avoid owner's clubs since then, as they seemed to exist mainly to allow people to say "mine's better/more original than yours"
I dont have to pay to feel insulted, I can get that for free at home! :D

The point is, what is the transit owner's club like? anybody have any experience?

 Well Mrspivvy you hit a pet hate of mine, like you say the rich buisness men with big cheque book resored cars. I usualy find them wearing flat caps driving sports cars, They seem to have the attitude that if a car isnt restored to concourse condition its not right and seem to get great pleasure slagging other peoples work off. This pisses me off why cant they realise that not everyone has a big cheque book & loads of time etc to work on cars. Personaly Im not into concourse cars but that doesnt mean that I dont apreciate the work people put into getting them that way,I like to see them more in their working clothes & used regularly, so what if they have a few scratches/ dents etc adds a bit of character. Anyway cars, vans, etc have been modified since they were first built so what is acctually standard, Over the years Ive owned a rake of mk1&2 escorts and lost count offthe number of strut tops, sills rear arches etc that Ive welded on them, If I see an escort that hasnt had strut tops it dont look right to me  Well thats me moan over for today going to have a lay down now Nurse wheres me medication   [/quote]
