Manually changing the direction of the heat blower??

Postby jim123 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 9:42 am

Morning All,

I've got a transit connect T200 1753cc 2004.

The dial that changes the direction of the heat blower has now decided not to work (something inside has gone as the dial still turns and moves the small spigot thing but the direction doesn't change) leaving me with the direction pointing to my feet. What with the cold weather we're having i need to manually change the direction so it goes up to the windscreen/defrost setting. Does anyone have any idea how to do this manually?

Thanks in advance!

if you take off the heater direction blower knob you can put it direct on the side of the heater box and turn the direction from there, set it to what you want then replace the knob back in the dash, this will only work if its the cables that are at fault mine has a problem with the heater box the flaps dont move even whe all is disconnected :(

The heater knob turns the spigot fine but whatever's connected to the spigot isn't doing anything.

I think through process of elimination that the cable is busted. When it was working you had to turn it quite hard to get it to do anything at all.

I need to try and get an idea of how i can get to the cable now to see if that's what the problem is.

Anyone have any idea where i can get a Haynes manual to cover a bi-fuel transit connect? Or, better still, a site that has a schematic of where stuff is??!!

It was bloody freezing this morning!!

Cheers

on the side of the heater box (drivers foot well ) you will see 2 blocks a white one and a black one each has 2 cables on it the white one is the one that moves the air direction the black one does the hot - cold setting. The air direction knob can be removed from the dash and placed direct on the heater box, is this dont work remove the white plastic block with the 2 cables going to it its held on with 3 clips now place the know on the side of the heater box and try to move again if that dont work you will have to unscrew the plate on the side of the heater box and find out which of the 2 levers is stuck
hope this helps

What area you from ??

hi there, new here - but having very similar issues
do i add to existing or reply to an old post ?
basically, pulled it all apart and found the levers are difficult to move, which in turn has probably stretched the cables
if i take the levers off, it seems to be the bottom most pin on the side of the heater box which is causing the trouble - its very stiff
how to i get this to loosen ?? presume that it this little lever controls the flaps inside the box ?
any thoughts appreciated

I'm here to bring this up again. I'm desperately trying to find out how the whole system works and can't quite get a full picture.
I have two minor problems, I can only get a tiny amount of air through the dash controls, and I can't turn off the front fascia flow at all. I have a feeling these are related to a similar flow control. To add to this, foot well controls work fine, I can turn that on and off fine, as that seems to be a manual control as I will note below.

My understanding from a bit of trial and error, some diagrams and the very little that the Haynes Manual has been able to shed on it:
the directional knob only directly controls the footwell direction via a cable. when turned right all the way around to the dash/windshield flow it triggers a switch on the drivers (RH) side. This doesn't seem to be doing anything in my van. I've tried to follow the cables, both in my van, and also in wreck I was able to play around in for a short amount of time, but I can't find where this second controller is that is triggered by the switch.
my heater switch work fine, I get wonderfully cold air from the aircon, and toasty hot when it's turned to heat.

Really hope someone might know. otherwise I'll have to maybe go and completely pull apart a dash board in a wreck again. that'll be boring (fun, but boring). :?
