Fwd Transit 280 di keeps cutting out

Postby Simtrike » Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:03 pm

Can any one help I Have a 51 plate transit fwd 280
It runs and tics over super but as soon as its warm it and you rev it up it will cut out the glow plug plight flashes as it dies but it will start straight back up and tic over but die if you rev it

I have stripped the front off the van to see if there is any thing that is visible I found a few wires at the top off the engine
That had rubbed and chaffed I have sleeved them but it still cuts out when it gets warm I have noticed that the oil pressure switch plug is snapped of not sure if this would cause this issue
all filters have been changed and new air filter
Please could some one help

glowplug light flashing is indicative of a fault being logged by the ECU - have you had this scanned for codes?

something's rattling around in my mind that someone I met once had problems with the diagnostic socket being traced back to a fuse in the engine bay.. which one and why it had popped, i don't know, but that might be worth a look

Has this been checked?
If the engine overheats due to a failing water pump the ecu will shut it down

No does not over heat have had it ticking over for about an hour sounds sweet but as soon as you rev it up glow plug light flashes and cuts out then you can start it straight back up and will tic over all day unless you rev it
I have a mobile diagnostics bloke coming out Friday to read codes but will make sure it is warm before they come as like I say it runs and revs fine until at normal driving temp
But will check the fues box tomorrow will keep updating progress and post the fault if I find it but would be very graitfull for any more suggests it idears what it could be

I had a similar problem with the alternator cable which is in the engine loom. It had been chafed through and was arcing against the engine this then shuts the ecu down due to the voltage drop. I ended up pulling the whole loom of to find it and the were a few other chafes that were nearly through.

how did you get on with looking for damaged wiring, you will need to really have a good look at it sometimes its not obvious..maybe try do a continuity check
if it aint damaged... these are pump codes...and prob needs another pump...but could be knackered edc on pump
wouldnt take to much notice of p0335 as i think this will show up every time van stalls

Going to tempt to take off the wiring loom over the weekend but if this is not the case I have seen a pump I can get my hands on how easy is it to put on as I have been told it is part of the immobiliser and would I have to get it reprogrammed
Or is it gonna be a pain to do so

take it its a tddi ..pump will need virginising...or reprogrammed with the right soft ware....if its a virginised pump you will only get one go to do it ..if not done right first time will be locked...but is very easy to do just make sure battery is fully charged
if it is a tdci it wont need programming
