As I understand it, when the ignition is OFF the aux and main batteries are separated by the split charge relay so that you can run auxiliary items like interior lights, radio, etc. without the risk of running the main (starter) battery flat.
So,in answer to your question, if you connect an inverter to the aux battery you will not drain the main (starter) battery.

I had an ex BT Mk6 and the batterys where just connected in parallel, I take it this was a different set up than the one you mention above.
