Central locking wont work

Postby customconnects » Fri Mar 15, 2013 11:18 am

Just bought a connect that had a slight front end bump paneled it up and its starts drives etc however it doesnt lock.
Someone mentioned that it may have a locking system to unlock everything in an impact is this correct/
Can it be disabled manually or is it a dealer job?

Thanks all and fantastic Forum

The Connects 2009 onwards have the auto locking & unlocking.

When you go to lock your connect, does it lock then automatically unlock ?

Yes but only seems to be drivers door. if i lock it with the key and keep it turned for about 10 seconds it fools it into locking?

It sounds like one of the door locks may be faulty (lock units have door ajar switches built into them)

It tricks the central locking module into thinking that one of the doors is still open, so when you lock it will automatically unlocked again.
I had this problem with my old 2003 connect, it turned out to be the rear door lock unit was sticking .

Ok thats great i will take it apart locks and see what its like and go from there.

Are you aware of a fault to do with airbags going off triggering doors to open?

hi locks seem to be ok but the interior light doesnt go out when the doors are shut so im presuming that its got to be a front lock. Have checked the loom between the rear light and the rear door and that seems to be ok. stil waiting FoMoCo to get back to me with regards to the locking as there is a file on the ECU that disables the locking but they couldnt re activate the last one so does anyone know of a standalone locking system thats really good?

If interior lights remain on then the central locking will not work properly (Central locking module thinks a door is still open)

Has you connect got a side loading door ? ifso push against the door were the lock is & see if the interior lights go out. If they do then the door requires slight adjustment as interior light door switch is not being depressed when door in closed.

Does this only happen with the drivers door? if so could be faulty electrics on the lock. Maybe your bump caused it and maybe just coincidence.

Hi Graham
its both front doors.
If I lock it with key in drivers door if i hold it in the lock position a couple of clicks it will lock however if i try the same in the passenger side it just keeps clicking and doesnt lock?

Thanks again to everyone for your help on this.

If it had just been the drivers door it may have been more simple but if not working on passinger side as well then probably more serious. Dont think there is an easy fix and probably need someone to checkout the whole system. Auto electrician maybe a cheaper option than main dealer (if you know a good one).
