Mk3 Handbrake Light - on all the time

Postby rik007 » Wed Apr 03, 2013 1:46 pm

Hi, the handbrake light on my SWB 2.0l Mk3 Transit stays on all the time. Can anyone tell me where the switch is? I guess its just got stuck on, as I dont think there are any clever braking electronics on this van?

Many thanks,

Rich.

Didnt have one on the MK3 that Ive ever seen, can only be fluid level or faulty float switch

Doh .... what a complete idot I am!

Yes you are quite correct... its the mater cylinder fluid level which has gone down. :-(

I feel so ashamed of myself, what a plonker. Where on earth I go the hand brake issue from I've no idea.

Only thing now is that there will be a fluid leak some where and I'll bet its one of the rear cylinders ... grrr.

Thanks chaps,

Rich.

Just pop underneath the back end and see if the is any dampness on the brake backplates, if there is you have a leaking slave cylinder

Yup, did that at at lunch time. Sure enough, the back driver side cylinder is leaking fluid. Have ordered a new cylinder. Just got to face the joy of bleeding the brakes!

Cheers for all the help.
