MK 7 central locking problems

Postby installer » Sat Mar 31, 2007 2:35 pm

Mk7 115ps T350 Jumbo.

We have three of these at work, one is fine (well mostly) the other two have issues with the central locking.

The problem is if you stop, turn of the ignition hop out and try to lock/unlock any doors (using remote) the chances are either nothing happens or just relays clicking under dash.

We only have one remote key for each vehicle (in use 5/6 days a week) so they should be getting charged ok,

The workround seems to be put the key back in ignition, turn on and off then it's ok till next time.

Two vans the same problem, one is ok!

Any ideas anyone?

Think there was a fault with the fobs charging up, have a search and you might come up with something.

yep there is a problem with the keys and dealers are changing them FOC. Contact the dealer and tell them your problem, if you have a spare take that as well :)

There has been a production issue on the keys whereby the connections on the battery have failed. This will kill the key.

Another issue affects the buttons on the fob, 1 or all 3 may become inoperative.

Both failures require the fob to be replaced and a fob programmed, as Mat said, take your spare key with you as current software doesn't allow the programing of a single key. All keys need to be erased and reprogrammed.

A less common concern could also be due to a poor connection at the remote receiver, This little box is fitted behind the roof lining.

remove the front interior light and look though. you'll see a small black box stuck to the metal work (velcro ;) ) pull it off and through the interior light hole in the headliner.

with it dangling off the wiring, open the box up but don't touch the PCB
press a button on the fob and you should see a small red led come on with each press.
repeat the button press for each of the buttons on the fob.

if the operation of the led is a bit flaky, disconnect the wiring and replug it, try the buttons again....:)

Thanks for the ideas, it's interesting that we have two vehicles with identical problems.

A voltage is applied to the pats transceiver which then induces a voltage within the circuitry inside the key. clever but simple.

I don't know why the dealer has been no help, the system is detailed on eTIS.

My key is busted too :(

Its only when it happens that the lack of a lock on the passenger door gets really frustrating!

Still waiting for the van to go in for new keys and that suspension strut recall, nearly had a disaster yesterday...

Been using the key, mate goes to open van, no joy!

I go over and the key won't turn, feels like somethings jammed. We are about to give up when I notice the passenger doors (no key lock fitted) internal lock button thing only looks half locked, luckily the door opens. (so van had been unlocked in a busy city). Later on I couldn't get the van to lock, I had to get in the passenger side and lock then unlock the doors with the button, then get out and lock the drivers door from outside. The drivers internal button wouldn't push in, so that makes me think that this would have defeated the central locking if it was working.

FORD are no help they want to be paid for reprogramming the key
A new key fob is required
Then they want more money to then look at the Central Locking
When the error code would have come up
When they plugged theIDS
ON THE FIRST VIST

Well done resurrecting a ten year old thread to complain because a dealer expects to be paid to work.

The topic was already
Up for discussion
It didn't need resurrecting
It's still a problem for some owners but not all
