Roof bars, racks and heights...

Postby MiloFrance » Sun Mar 19, 2017 8:32 pm

Greetings all, and apologies for a potentially dumb question. I have searched here, and Googled, but so far without an answer.

I live in France but am coming to collect a 2009 LWB H2 in the UK next week. Judging from the photo below, the rails are not far off the height of an H1 roof. So, will a rack or rails designed for an H1 fit an H2? Things like this are horribly expensive over here, so I'd really like to get it sorted soon!

Thanks in advance,
Milo

No. The H2 roof climbs about 3-4 inches from the gutter line, whereas the standard roof is approx 1 inch

As said, no, the height is different from rail to roof

The BEMM ( ford modifiers manual ) says the roof load is limited to 100kg.

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Yeah they look the same in pictures, but try and fit the low roof roof rack and you'll soon see how much higher they are, trust me, I've tried

I assume H1 is a low roof?

The thing to remember aswell is the different widths, the taller they get the narrower it is

The Mk6 and Mk7 have different gutter heights, if you're looking for mk7 rack don't be confused by racks for eg mk6 med roof like mine which have about 12" above the gutter to the roofline.

This is utter bullshit.
The respective models of mk6 and mk7 have the same gutter and roof heights.
I think you are confusing the roof heights on a short wheel base medium roof, and a medium wheel base medium roof, which are different

Thank you all, I think I've found a good rack and a set of bars. The rack is a MACC. Their new version sells for about 2400€

http://www.macc.fr/index.php?page=galerie-macc

I found the old version for €100! The bars are so I can get lightweight stuff around. The rack will be plasterboard etc.
