Long distance comfort

Postby Ting Tong » Mon Mar 20, 2017 10:36 pm

Just about any vehicle can be OK comfort wise for short journeys.
What is the Transit custom (limited) like for the long haul though?

It will all depend on your body shape and age
If your a big fat twat its not going to be pleasant as you'll be squashed up
And the seat belt will cut it to your big sagging tits
Knocking on a bit and you'll get stiff after a fre hundred miles no matter what your driving
So what's your bmi? And post a Pic in a leotard and I may be able to help.

I've driven mine to Italy and back. It's pretty comfy and quiet with the long gearing.

Heated seats are a god send and do extend the hours I can spend on board. Really helps with back ache.

BMI is all bollux mine is 25.8 which means I am 8kg overweight but I do between 7-10 hrs a week of CV workouts plus 3 sessions in gym on circuits. If I lost the 8kg I would look like someone in later stages of some terminal illness.

Promises my wife not to post any pics in a leotard.

I was thinking of comfort factor in a 2-3 hour drive.

Must admit i found my Mk 7 seats a lot more comfortable on a 3hr plus drive, the seats in the custom are ok but prefer the MK 7 seats

I have found the seats and position in my Tourneo really comfy. I have travelled down to my place in the southern French alps several times, which is a 13 hour journey, stopping only for a few 15 min breaks and arrived feeling a little stiff and weary but without any pain or discomfort. I regularly travelled the same journey in an A6 3.0tdi allroad and within 2 hours I got quite severe pain in my hips/buttock area and down my left leg. I thought this was just me and would have to put up with it, it came as a revelation to find that driving the custom gave me no such problems. It is a big thumbs up from me on comfort and it is relaxing to drive too!

Yes agree.... i've had some quite nice cars and on a cruise you can't beat the elevated position and the very upright seating that the custom offers. Its a far more natural seating position than most cars, but I guess that generic in most "vans".

It could be a little deeper in the thigh though madam.

It'a matter of personal preference. I needed to adjust the seat quite a bit to get used to compensate for the high foot pedals of the Custom. I find those a bit too far off of the floor. Had to get used to the angle I had to stretch my foot upwards. So I set the seat all the way to the back and as low as possible. For me that's really comfortable. If someone else drives my van, first thing they do is adjust the seats. I'm 1m76.
When adjusted it's really comfortable. I spend about 6 hours a day driving.
Did some 10 hours trips too. And don't feel any strain.

I would guess the Tourneo will be the same as the VW transporter Kombi--the drivers seat will go back considerably further than the panel van which is restricted by the bulkhead, so not a valid comparison--or am I wrong.

Dealers don't seem to want to let you take one out for a few hours to get a real feel for it. VW are OK with it just not Ford and one would have thought if it was a potential sale then-- WTF not? scuz mt French.

My dealer let me first drive the Tourneo for over an hour. Eventhough I was going to get the panelvan. It wasn't that much of a difference on how much the seat could move backwards. I remember that the first thing I noticed were those high pedals and the first thing I did was fiddling with the seat adjustment buttons.
The only thing different was the smoother ride of the Tourneo vs the Transit. At that time I didn't yet know the Transit has leaf springs.
