Stainless steel exhaust pipes.

Postby baconsdozen » Thu Jul 13, 2017 8:53 am

Can anyone recommend a firm for making stainless steel exhausts. I need some fitted to my Mk1 soon. I have e-mailed powerflow three times but the never answer. I'm now based in sunny Grimsby.

I don't really know mate,I know we drove through it some years ago and thought "What a dump". But its where we've ended up nice big garage and outbuildings to make a mess in. People seem OK and like all towns (especially sea side ones) there are good bits and places best avoided. I tried a couple of places in Hull but they couldn't be bothered to get back to me.

I tried the German site for a mild steel exhaust, apart from being expensive I had difficulty in getting any reply to an e-mail apart from one rather rude one at the finish so that doesn't bode well for communication if there is any problem.
I'm now toying with either buying a load of pipe and universal silencers and making my own up or putting in a different lump and doing the same but without the aggro of joining two pipes into one and maybe getting a little more go out of the thing.
Decisions,decisions.

I looked into having a batch of stainless V4 exhausts made but I had no interest on here.

I didn't see that Ralph. Over the years I've tried to arrange to get stuff made but found that there is a big difference in the number of people who are keen and the number who actually cough up any money.
Many moons ago Luke gave me a pair of down pipes and looked at having the replicated in stainless.
A one off was lots of dosh but a batch brought the price down but,to be honest most firms in this country seem to talk the talk but then fall down when it comes to actually doing the business, you can see why so many people now have stuff made abroad.
