Is it Possible to find out where my engine came from?

Postby connectboy » Thu Jul 13, 2017 10:58 pm

Does anybody know if it's possible to find out the registration plate of a focus from an engine number? I'm asking as I've just found that the engine in my connect is a F9DA type from a focus .

I'd like to find out the registration plate of the focus So I can look up the mot history to get an estimate of the milage the engine has done .

If the engine is running ok not burning oil and smoking and quiet I'd just given it a full service and timing belt kit and if water pump is driven off belt also do that .the 04 focus I had I put full belt kit and pump on it at 92000 I know the lad I sold it to its know done 165000 and sill going strong.

Thanks for the replys, I've just sent you a pm liteace. The engine is running ok now, I had to change the injectors as soon as I bought it which was a bit annoying but the more I drive it the better the engine seems to be feeling, I'm wondering if the engine has been off the road for a while and is a bit clogged up inside.

I've given it a oil and filter change, only used halfords own oil as I'm treating it as an engine flush so will do it again soon but with better oil this time.

The vans got 167 on the clock so I'm hoping the engine has less

Ok, my engine number stamped on the side of the cylinder head is F9DA2R48829. If you could find anything out about it , it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a Honda S2000 engine that I dont know the origin of. I have always wondered if it was possible to find the donor car info from the engine number. Basically I wasnt to make sure the car wasnt stolen.

Are you able to do this liteace or can you only do fords?

Or anybody else able to help

Won't be able to find MOT history. Engine is NOT from a UK registered vehicle :!:

Thanks for the info Paul, really appreciate it. Interesting discovery that it's got a forgine engine in it, but a shame it means that I can't get the history.

I guess my van has spent some time abroad, during its 12 year life!

Or the focus the engine come out of was driven back to the UK from abroad, loaded up, spain by the looks of things, and then scrapped due to dvla's wanting paperwork to get its UK plates that doesn't exist on a vehicle of that age

Yep good point hadn't thought of that possibility. I've got no paperwork with the van other than the V5 , so I've got no idea of its history
