blown turbo . help

Postby hiddenspy » Sun Aug 27, 2017 9:44 pm

my turbo blew last sunday and i had to get recovered with the aa to a garage.

once i felt the van lose power and saw the smoke from the back i pulled over and turned the van off. i then stupidly decided to re start it as my egr had been acting up and i thought it could just have been that. but the van started and then the revs shot up and over ran for 10 seconds before i force stoped it by stalling it..

i told the garage and they fitted a new cartridge to the turbo but lastnight he txt me saying not so good the van is low on power and misfireing.

has anyone had this problem before or know what to look for? its a 2.2 fwd mk7 57 plate 110 . im going to go down tomorrow and plug it in to the ids but have no idea what to look for :( the garage its at is my girlfriends uncles and its actualy an MG dealer so i think its a bit out of there league. hes tried to help but i think hes bit off more than they can chew haha

thanks in advance

Blank the egr to rule it out, do a compression test.

Check, clear and check the codes again.

If it's jammed open, unplugging won't do much good

What Punto said..!

If she's run on her own oil for ~10seconds, that's a long time at more revs than she's designed for, I wonder if there's rods hanging out the side of the block..? ....The rev limiter doesn't work when turbo's blow and she'll happily rev till destruction.

Maybe 10 seconds is an exaggeration . It started to rev up and I killed it as soon as I could. It never reved up to be bouncing off the limiter it never reved that high I think that's why I was lucky to stall it. :-/ hopfaly it's not done anything like that :-( :?

If they fitted a new cartridge to the turbo then is the boost correct ?

If you have ids then you do the boost test.
Otherwise drive it and get an assistance to check live data to see what boost pressure you have.

Ok so just been to the van. It's not down on power just misfiring. Ids has came up with the code p029c cylinder 1 balance injector restricted .

It's smoking but that's because the exhaust is full of oil still and il need to take it a blast to get it cleared

Use the injector test function to turn off each injector in turn and prove that the misfire is caused by injector 1.

It is only a limited turn the injector off function, it would prove that injector 1 is the misfire.

Injector and cylinder numbers are not the same thing. Injectors are numbered in firing order.

At least injector 1 is in cylinder 1 so that mistake shouldn't happen.

Fitting a new cartridge is half a job. It needs all the inlet cleaning out or you risk it running away again on any oil that's pooled up in the inlet. It will also run lumpy and smokey until it's all been cleaned.
It's not unknown for it gum up injectors either when it's runs away there is sometime more oil than the engine can burn and it coats everything in a sticky half burnt residue....

Think the van is done . Suposably oil is still getting through but not at the cartridge side or somthing? . I'm not sure what they mean .I think I have lost interest in it and going to brake it and go for a new van on finance  dose anyone know if the 2014 shape transit that's 2.2 is the same engine? And would anyone advise going for the 2.0 130 bhp one?.
