Stereo options?

Postby Thequeenscheese » Tue Aug 08, 2017 3:09 pm

Hi, I'm just wondering ( as I bought a apple only job by and need to sell it) what stereos you've all got fitted?
I'm looking at the cheaper mirror link imports like strings etc but I'm struggling to find one that works with later android phones.

There's various ones around the £100-£200 mark on eBay what have you lot got fitted..?

After spending an age today waiting for the ford stereo to decide whether the cd i'd put in it was real or not i'm looking at an android system myself, particularly one that has wifi in it to take advantage of internet radio. Has anyone tried one?

All or most of the wifi ones will require a dongle or hotspot tether from your phone, I'd dab would be a better option I've had a few of the android units here and there and you do get what you pay for with them, for eg the asure one I bought for the mk7 has a cheap feel to it and has a plastic feel touch screen, but I can't fault it it does the job very well, but if I could have afforded a newer or new pioneer or alpine version etc I definitely would have gone down that root, there's also a few peeps on YouTube etc that have converted average tablets like Samsung galaxy tab etc into stereo head units I always fancied having a crack at that but never got around to it.

The internet signal is through a 4g dongle so no problem there.

I've already got a Sony dab in the the camper and to be honest I find it very awkward to use compared to a home dab radio. Instead I'm looking at a WiFi head unit to replace the dongle/smart phone / aux in set up I usually use. I also fancy the idea of having dvd and maps together in the same unit. Saves all the cables laid across the dash too.

Not many of the newer cheap droid units have a dvd and most things these days are MP4 show box is a brilliant app to use for tv and movies and you can pre download to the device or so card for later viewing or kodi.

Having had a play with a windows ce head unit this morning I would say that the plastic feel touch screen is down to it having an older single point pressure sensing system like a cheap satnav (using a hard stylus, end of a cable tie, etc) , not a modern capacitative multi touch screen like on phones and tablets.

It's this one...

...and one thing is certainly isn't is double din. it's taller and narrower, no chance of it fitting a Ford double din hole without taking a file to the dashboard.

Luckily it's not mine.
