Central locking problem 53 reg tddi

Postby cdel2005 » Sat Nov 25, 2017 7:20 pm

when I use the key fob to lock the doors the rear doors don't lock
When I lock manually via the drivers door or passangers door the rear doors don't lock
The rear doors lock only by key into rear doors manually
The front doors are working as they should
The key fob opens all as normal

Any ideas what issue may be?

Thanks

A fuse or a wiring fault at a guess

As above, most rear door or C/L faults are cause by wiring where it goes from the body into the rear door :)

well i looked underneath the steering column for fuses and there wasnt any so i checked behind glovebox fusebox and loosened it aswell and there is no fuses i will upload pictures tomorrow.the wiring is all in protective rubber stuff.
where should i be looking for wiring fault behind the rear lights?
maybe the actuator has gone?

Do you know how to use the multimeter?

Firstly check for power at the source (fuse box). Then check as close to the load end as possible.

If you have power at locks then the lock is faulty. If not you probably have a broken cable.

An ohms test from source to locks would confirm this.

Also test for a good earth. No earth, no circuit

I had to break open the plastic braid and inside there was one broken wire (yello&green) which is the wire that locks the rear dont ask me how this has occured?
is it best to solder back together or use a connector block?

I would always solder and heatshrink over top to protect. There are a few others there that have broken insulation. I'd do those too.

It happens over time with opening and closing the door and the wires get pushed and pulled and crack the insulation then finally snap the copper wire
