Replacement seating

Postby chuffstix » Thu Dec 07, 2017 5:18 pm

I've recently purchased a 2015 L3H3, looking to replace the dual passenger seat with a single, putting swivels on both front seats, and adding two more folding and removable seats in the back.

Does anyone know of any compatible seats other than the originals? Probably going to use Tourneo seats or similar in the back if possible, and would ideally like some plush captains chairs in the front. Not scared of cutting and welding if necessary but would much prefer it to be as plug and play as possible.

Also, if I end up using OEM Mk8 seats, are the bases for the double passenger different from the single version? If so, do the necessary holes already exist to swap over?

Any advice much appreciated.

Really? That would be amazing. Don't suppose you can find the post? I've been looking for a while for all things Mk8 and seat related...

Don't know about replacement seats, but I have put swivels on my Mk8, which came with single passenger seat. I bought the RIB swivels from Kiravans. Not an easy job but doable even for a DIYer like me!

I'd think twice about replacing the seat box. Have you seen the electrics under the driver's seat?!

Do you think it's possible to use a drivers side box?

I was told by Kiravans that I would need to move the battery, but in the end no I did not have to. (I'm very glad about that, as there's a shed load of electrics down there!)

The battery sits in a plastic box under the seat. Once you have the seat off you can disconnect and remove it. On the inside of the bottom of the plastic battery box is a series of square plastic blocks, moulded into the box itself. The battery sits on these. Not sure why but presumably for air circulation? Anyway, rather than move the battery I decided to snip/break these blocks off, so the battery could sit about an inch or so lower in its box. This was just sufficient to enable the battery to remain under the driver's seat with the swivel fitted.

Obvious disclaimer: I have no idea about the implications of modifying the battery box like that. All I can say is that I've been driving it for 18 months like that and no problems at all.

I'm sorry I don't know. I would have to remove both seats to look at floor bolt hole alignment. You could probably get that info from Ford if you went to their spares department, and asked them to look at seat boxes to see if they were the same.

I don’t no about the mk8 but on the mk6&7 it’s just remove double seat and box and bolt the single seat and box straight in it used one less bolt to hold down
