Avoiding a scammer

Postby Karst » Mon Mar 19, 2018 10:15 am

Hi Folks,

Just a warning for you all.

The van I recently bought turns out to be a complete lemon, not even the recent MOT is acceptable. I bought the van (stupidly) in good faith from a dealer fairly local to me.

I really started to be concerned about it when after 10 days reverse gear vanished. The subsequent visits to 2 different mechanics resulted in both of them recommending I take it back for a refund (I won't bore you with the whole list of its faults)

The dealer was completely uninterested in this, and has been completely uncooperative. So I've gone down the legal route (It turns out I've got legal cover with my van insurance). Also applied for a chargeback on my debit card.

The actual premises I bought the van from are D M Vans in Great Missenden. It's also associated with Chesham Vans and KarsLtd.co.uk. The actual company behind these names is Kars.co.uk Limited. I also found out they were fined about £16,000 back in 2012 for selling dodgy motors.

Watch this space!

I know that's what you meant :D I also meant I can try to ruin it even more!

Do you mean Station Garage Ltd. Great Missenden? I hadn't found them in connection with all this.

The trouble is, If their reputation is so bad, how is it they are still trading? I didn't know about them. But, if I had taken more time, been more suspicious, and really done some in depth research, then I could have avoided this.

But how are Joe Public supposed to be fully aware of these scammers? When this is over, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get local papers to run the story.

The Mr Ahmed seems to have passed it over to a Mr Javed (S&D Motor Group) a couple of years ago. Notice the subtle change from Station Garage to Station’S Garage to start trading again after one of the dodgy events.

A common occurrence in the secondhand car world (and others!), it would seem.
This is how these places appear to carry on trading, subtle name changes that no-one notices, a slight change of directors, a couple of glowing reviews by paid reviewers, and everything is back on track for the next innocent punter to turn up
Bailiffs turn up at the premises with court writs which are made out to the old company, and get nowhere because of it :!:

This is another level of bad. This is not conning a rich person out of a luxury item, it's conning them out of their basic means of living.

I mean seriously, I am right now about £5,000 out of pocket and I am just a sole trader who depends on cashflow.

I checked D M Vans and Kars.co.uk Limited, and neither have county court judgements against them.

I'm hiring a van at the moment so I can get work done, but even though it relatively cheap, it's still over £500 a month.

I mean seriously, How the hell am I going to fix this without first going bust?
