Heavy power steering on a 2014 mk7 after replacing power steering bottle ?? Help please

Why was bottle replaced ?
Was it ok before this ?
What 'colour / spec' fluid have you used ?

It's a fairly simple system, pump, pipes, rack.
How damaged was it? Was it fine before? Was it damaged from a crash? If so was the engine cut out from the crash or was it kept running? Is it possible that it stayed running but the pas fluid drained out and the pump ran dry? Or was the bottle cracked into small bits and possibly 1 piece is lodged somewhere causing a flow problem?
