Started fitting the new split charge wiring this afternoon . Managed to get relay fitted under battery tray out of sight and wired up.
Also tested the night heater i bought as spares repairs. Image
Got a few neighbours asking what it was and what i was doing to landrover, they still looked confused when i said i just need some power.

Abit miffed coz ive got to go to a BBQ now and i know ill get bugger all done tomorrow.

Been slowly getting on with split charge upgrade and night heater install.
Heater inst finished because I'm waiting on a part turning up.
Tonight I managed to get the radio wired to the leasure battery and fit switch for 2 speed heater fan.

Pictures are abit poor because flash won't work when batterys low so had to use a torch.Imagehigh and low switch wired up.Image I used a mk345 resistor and used what would be 1 as the low. It still needs mounting but its too dark now.Image switch mounted in one of original holes.

Part of split charge wiring done at the weekendImageImageImage
Not a good picture of relay mounted under battery tray

Ello mate great work. Cutting out may be too retarded making fuel evaporate..my essex v6 did it. Red hot exhaust manifold and boiled fuel. Timed it up about 30 degrees using timing gun and was sweet after!
You'll want about 6 degrees btdc with vac advance pulled off dizzy and vac blocked
2.9i 24v cosworth v6 LSD now fitted and quad pipes out back

Had
X-Reg Mk5 150ps 3.0 ESSEX V6
MAKE IT FIT

Ill have to check timing.
Alternator had packed up on bank holiday weekend.
Struggled to find anywhere that stocked one or a marine mechanic.
Got home in day light, left old alternator with local motorised discounts telling them what its off and want to upgrade to a bigger output.
they rung up this morning saying that they can get a left handed alternator but it wont have the black plastic lucas cover on the back.
Not a problem.
We supply alot of these alternators to canal boat yards
Sounds good when can you get one?
We can get one for 4pm.
Great, how much? getting ready for a big shock
£45 plus vat. For a 65Amp alternator.
Will be better than the standard 27amp one just need a bigger wire.

Fitted new alternator just so camper can be run and moved.
The new 1300mm belt wouldnt fit but managed to prize old one on, must of stretched a little over time.
Old lucas plug fits in back but it also has a B+ post to connect too.
Had jump leads but thought id just try to see if it would start as it was faced into sun.
A few slow throws and it fired up
I know it has the leisure battery to run from but i dont think the mk7 would of driven 90miles through towns and villages, run with side lights on closure to home and the started 2 weeks later with a duff alternator.

A long over due up date
Where did I get to.
Camper has been used but just no updates
January 2017 we had all the brakes off stripped cleaned and new pads
Exhaust stripped coz it was blowing again on drivers manifold.
Spring time the starter died so a new old stock replacement fitted
Around a month later the leasure battery died along with the starter battery ened up getting a jump of a Bentley fitted with a 6BT cummins engine.
A fully working hob unit came up now have hob and a gillie.
Mot time and the only fault really Was the cheap led bulbs in the rear lights
The said belt that had stretched over time to fit the new alternator stretched a little more and snapped one Friday night on route to a steam rallly luckily local autoparts was still open.

Work is needed this spring on the roof lights as they are leaking
After looking at bigger better mirrors that are in keeping with the look of the mk1s I've bought a reversing camera and hoping to hide the camera under the rear step

Went to the camper last weekend even with the choke stuck once it pulled fuel up it started and idled happy, not bad to say it's been stood since September.
Show season will be starting at the beginning of may and we're hoping by then it's free to tax and maybe test exempt but think it will still be going in for a quick once over.

Need to get back into habit of uploading photos before they get lost. Ive photos on 2 phones now.

A new sky light has been fitted over high bunk after old one started leaking and was looking passed its best.
After ringing localish caravan dealers to see if they had one in stock was surprised to find out they were only a couple of quid more than ebay. "What time you open till?"
"5pm"
" great ill set off now"
4pm and 11miles . got stuck in traffic and rolled into their yard with 8 mins to spare and £40 in my hand.
Nipped into shop and it was in darkness.
Shouted hello a couple of times when a guy came out of office asking what i was doing.
Explained id come to pick up a skylight id rang about a hour earlier.
"Sorry we're shut"
"But its not 5 yet!"
"I know but the tills are switched off"
I explained about traffic which he said " i know ive seen it.you will have to come back tomorrow at 10am"
Like shite i am.
After googling i found a smaller firm open at 8 next morning happy days.

The larger skylight has been replaced at some piont but started leaking so stripped it down.
The origanal must of been narrower so the hole in the roof had been cut wider with a blunt bread knife looking at the mess but didnt have any timber in to support the edges.
New timbers in and sealed with the propper non setting caravan sealer and tested with a hose pipe.
Water tight again ImageImage

On my way back from a rally a week ago there was such a clatter and tinging noise as i came round a little round about.
Pulled up to see what it was thinking id lost a hub cap.
Turn out to be head light surround that had come loose.
The green outer trim survived but car behind squashed the silver bezil.
I had one in stores id picked up on a auto jumble.
Differnt shade but will do for now.Image
