Whats better V4 or 2.5 D

What I get better milage from my original V4 or a 2.5 D?

I would have thought the 2.5di, I get between 35-40 mpg. :D
Blue 1998 Ford transit 2.5di 70ps 120 swb low roof Mk5 with 5 seats. 1.5 turns on pump, egr butterfly removed and a stainless steel Urban X funnel air filter fitted. Now happily burning SVO.

So thats about 14p a mile then. I am thinking about swoping my V4 over as its costing me a fortune to run :lol:

And if you get a 2.5di with a Bosch pump on it will happily run on veg oil too bringing running costs down even further. :wink:

if originality isn't an major issue with you, I would say the DI. Not only as jamie said, you can run on veg oikl with the right pump, but you have the option of the MT75 gearbox too.

Is the MT75 gearbox a good thing then? Sorry I know very little about engines and gearboxs.

Will the 2.5 Di just fit on the original engine mounts then just a bullnose on the front or is major adoption :?:

i dont know about mountings but probably are the same, i would recommend a 2.5 non turbo di :wink:

I take it I will get better milage out of a 2.5d rather then a 2.5d turbo. Think I will start with looking for a Bullnose front and bonnet :idea:

Di wins hands down exept............ they are very noisy in mk1's :(

:idea: I wonder if anywhere does a soundproofing kit or if the soundproofing from a Mk5 could be adapted?

mk5 flareside with tail-lift GONE and will be missed!

Every transit DI is noisy...make sure you use the right diff if you do a lot highway miles.

Turbo DI is nice and powerfull :twisted:

it would need something like dynamat if you wanted the noise down :D all Dis are noisy but it is worse in the mk1&2s my mk4 has no sound proofing and its ok - it the auoustics of the early ones are at fault :lol:

He could always but himself a louder stereo or some ear plugs with all the cash he would be saving on fuel. :wink: :P
