Its all true

To meet the emissions for euro 4 and 5 Perkins (now Caterpillar) and Sisu are going to fit a urea injection system onto there new agricultural engines with them oming into production in 2009 on the Massey ferguson and valtra tractors

Its the onlt way to meet the emissions (tractors are exempt from euro 4 until 2010)

my grandad told me once of when hi was in france in ww1

when the germans first used gas weapons the only protection they had was a cotton scarf doused in p155
so they used to walk round with pop bottles full of there p155 tied to there belts

can see it coming back now so we can top up our p155 tanks to keep the costs down :P

I have this strange vision of Ken Livingstone pissing in the tank of a euro compliant lorry on Tower Bridge, in order to keep London Green

very true, DAF and others call it ad blue. injected into the exhaust before the cat (yes and much bigger than your van). causes no end of engine fault codes to flash up when the ad blue tank runs dry etc. with DAF we have to use the laptop to re set the faults even if it's ony because you have run out. the official name is an exhaust after treatment system (AES) and the liquid is urea. it's injected once the exhaust gases reach a pre determined temperature in cycles of around 600 seconds from start to finish. it;s already causing the injection nozzles to clog if the system has'nt finished it's cycle, highly corrosive. it reduces the nitrous oxide emissions and manufacturers need it to comply with euro five. compliance with euro six will require this and some form of particulate filter. a couple of drivers have already suggested topping the tank up with water if the ad blue aint available. in a word, no. being an owner operator is just getting harder and harder as you wont be able to handle the repairs the old fashioned way.

V64paul , Is the DAF adblue system ECU controled ? The reason I ask one of the 75 `s I run had a problem where it used a whole tank in a day , Ran and smoked like a pig , Took it back to dealers , they were a bit cagey on what the problem was and many boxes were drawn from the parts dept until they cracked it , With a laptop .

Empty adblue tanks will also earn you a PG9 if caught on a roadside check .

kind of. the more common problems are not using any at all in our experience. depends on the dealer, ours is on the small side but there is little information around most of what we know is work it out for yourself. if we ring thame to speak to the technical guys, the answer is either take off the battery lead (forces the ecu to re-set) or look it up yourself, the network has an on line thing called rapido. leads me to think that they dont know much either. did'nt know about the prohibition thing, something else to worry about when presenting for mot i suppose. i spent five years at an erf dealership, while the product was old fashioned the support was excellent until man stepped in. the modern daf stuff looks good but support for the dealers stinks sometimes.
