ROAD TAX

Postby Blue van man » Tue May 06, 2008 1:41 pm

Hi Guys,,,Can any one tell me what the new road tax will be next march for a transit around the “2001-2004” year.
Some say that the transit wont be in the higher tax bracket as its a van, others tell me that’s only if you use it for work but
If used and insured as a privet car like i will be doing it will come under the high tax :?

Thanks for any help on this

Transits are mostly Private Light Goods (PLG) tax class, which is cars and light commercial vehicles, so I am thinking 2001-4 will be governed by CO2 emissions as registered by Ford at the DVLA. If you want to check what it is at the moment, the the reg into the DVLA vehicle check, at the bottom it will tell you how much the tax will be/is.

Fred!

tried that but the CO2 Emissions for a commercial vehicle comes up 0g/Km which is where i think some of the confusion comes from "IE" that they will be exempt from been classed like cars that will be based on emissions. :? :?

If the emissions aren't recorded then it'll just be at the standard rate of £185 or w/e

I don't get what you mean. Just put your reg number into the DVLA, it will tell you what tax you will have to pay.

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk click on vehicle enquiry and enter you reg number.

It should look like this -

The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for A*** AHE are:

Date of Liability 01 12 2008
Date of First Registration 01 05 1984
Year of Manufacture 1984
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1993CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval null
The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £101.75
12 Months Rate £185.00

Obviously yours will show the CO2 Emissions, but the tax due should be at the bottom.

 I get you now. I am more used to having NO CO2 reading logged, so our vans with the same size of engine as you disco will still be £185, as will our granny which is nearly 3L. Once again it looks like having an older van or car is cheaper.

Me too, yours must be pre 1997 nidge. Emissions N/A means there were none registered by Ford with the DVLA when your van was new.

This may help, If you get the May 2008 copy of car mechanics there is a breakdown of all 13 groups of emission levels and these seem to kick in, in 2009 another increase in 2010 and god help us thereafter as we will ALL be royally screwed by these delightfull Ba****ds in government. As i read it these apply to all cars first used after March 2001 Y reg and younger. Anything older than this do not have emmissions levels recorded and will be taxed at two levels 1,499cc or less will be £120 per annum, 1,550cc or more will be £200 per annum

For Example 262g Co 2/km as from 2009/2010 ved will be £425 per annum, from 2010/2011 £440 per annum and from 2010 the first years road rent will be an eye watering £950 one off for first registering.

Sorry for the cardiac post but this is how i read it, it looks like the agenda is to drive people off the road and onto the buses, trains pushbikes. What I would like answering is where all this extra money will be going?
