Fuel Primer

Postby duncmc » Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:53 pm

I am going to change my fuel filter in the next day or so, and does anyone know if the Sealey fuel primer will fit onto the Ford connectors? It is available at a Sale price of £11.44 at the mo, and I fancy that as a less messy way of getting air out than cracking injectors and cranking the engine. Cheers

Thanks for that Guy, I haven't looked too closely at the filter housing area yet. I just assumed it wouldn't have one judging by the discussions on here and from the TIS disc. It had a pollen filter by the way! :D

I don't think mine has a hand pump on it. :(

Is your pump ontop of the filter housing? I have a blanking plate that unscrews, allowing diesel to leak out.

Changed the filter this afternoon. Started and ran for about 30 seconds then died. As I didn't get a fuel primer (my local stockist didn't have one in!) I cracked the injectors as per previous posts, crancked engine, got rid of bubbles. But still won't start. Now batteries are flat due to sevral rounds of the above. Think I will put some more charge in the batteries and try again, or might try to jump start it?

Just had another go. Took filter back off to check. Was not full so filled back up. Have some charge in batteries now so cranked over 2 or 3 times. Still won't start. Took filter back off so still full. Next I am going to crack the injector pipes again. Is it best to do this whilst someone else is cranking it over, or straight after cranking whilst pressure still up? I will leave that until tommorrow now probably. :?

My other concern is its going to do this every time I change the fuel filter, so where can I get a priming device from? Or should I fit a fuel filter body/housing with a manual priming pump on like Guy's?

If you fill the new filter before fitting it will start & keep running.......

Now its run dry,ensure filter`s full & battery`s charged.
Crank engine with all injector pipes open at injectors,as fuel start spraying everywhere lock them off.
Should fire up then......

So what do you recon the chances of the pollen filter having been changed are? I wouldn't put any money on!

:D :D

Yipeeeee. Got it going. Couldn't look at it until this afternoon, so left batteries on charge.

Loosened injectors and with a full fuel filter, then the crucial bit I think was to get the wife to crank over whilst I was under bonnet waiting for fuel to come out of injector pipes. Then did back up. It was nearly starting as I did last injector pipe back up. Then fired up and away it went. I'm happy now. :D
