valve clearance 2.5 di

hi about to check valve clearance as i have never checked them and need to put a new gasket on the rocker cover,got the clearance settings but dont know which end valve 1 will start at,appreciate it if somone could tell me cheers

The book says:

Remove the rubber bung from the front of the crancshaft pulley and with a sanner turn the engine over till valves i and 6 are fully open (Counting from the front) and adjust valves 4 [inlet] and 7 [exhaust]
valves 2 and 3 fully poen adjust valves 5 ex and 8 in
valves 4 and 7 fully open adjust valves 1 ex and 6 in
valves 5 and 8 fully open adjust valves 2 in and 3 ex
Rotate the engine clockwise only between adjustments.
