Retro Fit Aircon ?

Postby dethleffs » Fri Apr 10, 2009 4:41 pm

I want dashboard air con fitting to my new Transit 2.2 140bhp
Is it a job for Ford or independent fitters ?

i had a retro fit aircon to my mercedes vito 52 plate about 2 years ago cost about £1400
they had to take the dash off. the front bumper off and a new radiator installed.
they had the van for about 5 days
the van got smashed up on the m40 in bambury 2 weeks after the install, a totall right off
the insurance wouldnt included the air con install in the insurance claim as i never told them
but it can be done and i would use a inderpendant air con specalist as that is what ford main dealler will do but charge you extra on top
i wouldent even look at a van if it hasnt got aircon
if i was you i would sell yours, and buy a van with aircon factory fitted
aircon should come as standard nowadays

I retrofitted aircon a few years ago when I bought my Mk6. It was done by a specialist firm in Southampton and they did an excellent job despite it being complicated by LHD. It was about £1500 but worth every penny. It looks and works just the same as a factory fit.
